I meant to ask you moonlight have you come up with a prefix for any good seedlings or sports you get eg tel with birkenshaw and scrumpy with greenways ?

Nope. No prefix just name and numbers Fred 1 Fred 2 Fred 3... etc.
The next decision is do I carry on with Fred or have a different name for each year... hmmm
I think you need something super special to give it a Prefix.
Collected some lovely dark almost black seeds, swollen like a plump apple seed from a Marston George.
Also Weston Pirate and erm Mary's Jomanda
Might do a staggered start in the seed department. Smaller numbers and see the germination success rate. Decide from where after that. After seeing todays seed, I'm intrigued as to how fertile they maybe as it is late in the season. Not the only one still collecting seeds, Dad collected a few from a White Moonlight today.
I might to Marston George, Valentine, Trooper and Moonlight 1st.
Might do Red Balloon, Brenda T, Jomanda and Mary's Jomanda last. Maybe poms in the middle. Go with the flow me and now this Go With the Flow woman needs to climb up the wooden hill and go to bed.

FROST

Post by Moonlight on Nov 6, 2014 14:47:16 GMT
Dad waits until the frost comes and the foliage turns black before digging them up. Should be seeing him tonight so I can talk through plan of attack, want to try and keep up with him this year, rather than being weeks later than him. After the panic sets in.

I had a bit of frost last night some bedding ones with a touch of black on the foliage but not enough to finish them off. Will start lifting on Sunday weather being ok.

The frost finally killed my outdoor tomatoes. They fought a valiant battle. There will be a short remembrance ceremony on Saturday, and then I will shove them in a bin bag.

We are not emotionally soft here on the RoofGarden. At this altitude, only a STRONG hand can prevail.
The bin bag will be displayed to the two remaining plants in the greenhouse. With the message...
"Ripen... "

Been a bit thin on the updates recently but have nipped in to the dahlia threads. Family life has over taken well dahlia life really. Still have not planted Sweetpeas so I've missed the boat on that one. For now.
Did have some photos to add but missed the boat there as dahlias are looking more haggard.
What I want to add is that Dad has told me to give him the tubers that I want to keep which he did last year but even more so this year. For obvious reasons he wants to have the girls' dahlias.
He thinks that I was lucky last year due to good weather (and probably luck) with me and my duvets and my unheated green house.
Well I guess fingers crossed I can dig out my Willows Violet without breaking my tuber. Wouldn't it be wonderful if it threw out another sport but I am guessing it isn't that simple.

This year I have grown the following 31 varieties: (I'm going by size rather than classification or personal favourites.) Pom - 5 1 Willo's Violet 2 Gurtla Twilight 3 Lismore Moonlight 4 Moor Place 5 Tisa
Large Pom - 1 6 Nuland's Josephine
Miniature - 9 7 Downham Royal 8 Hillcrest Hannah 9 Weston Pirate 10 Marston George 11 Weston Spanish Dancer 12 Weston Stardust 13 Weston Corsair 14 Mary's Jomanda 15 Jomanda
Small - 7 16 Amber Festival 17 Oakwood Goldcrest 18 Ryecroft Zoe 19 Ruskin Myra 20 Clearview Audrey 21 Red Balloon 22 Ryecroft Brenda T
Medium - 4 23 Eastwood Moonlight 24 Clearview Jenny 25 Candy Jayne 26 Peach Delight
Large - 2 27 Trooper Dan 28 Kenora Valentine
Giant - 1 29 Sir Alf Ramsey
Collerette - 1 30 Garden Friends
Waterlilly - 1 31 Edwin's Sunset
31 Varieties - sounds a lot. Tubers to go to Dad: Amber Festival, Hillcrest Hannah - top priority because they are the girls. Garden Friends - because it is special. Willo's Violet - the one which had the sport. Edwin's Sunset - lovely red Kenora Valentine - because it is stunning I think my 2 keeper seedlings need to go to Dad to give them the best chance of survival. Candy Jayne and Clearview Jenny after all that fuss getting them to grow from the US.
The rest I need to talk to Dad about, for example my Nuland's Joesphine was much better than his (and mine was a cutting from a tuber) and I need to know which pom varieties he has, no need to double up.
New for next year / Wish List / Maybe / Tempted to / Possibly: Barbarry Surprise Marston Lilac Weston Sunup Hillcrest Candy Majestic Athalie Eastwood Star Grand Duc Barbarry Pip another waterlilly, another large pom + another US
Relegation List i.e. those I'm not fussed on growing again. Brenda T Red Balloon but I've collected lots of seed this year.
Reduced Plants 1 plant max: Weston Stardust Mary's Jomanda Jomanda Weston Stardust
Favourites: Eastwood Moonlight Downham Royal but going to make a point of giving it more tlc next year Weston Pirate Marston George Trooper Dan Kenora Valentine
Others that I really like just not my 'favourite' favourites. (If that makes sense) Well that's where my brain is now.
