Yes, Steve. That's worked for the last 6 years. I realise that this winter has been exceptional, though. Louise, I do indeed remember! Who laughed at me???

I thought last winter was bad....but I think that December caught me on the hop this year....and we've still got to get through February and March! Plenty of time for more frosts too....
but Spring's just around the corner...

I think I have lost both my Dianella they are looking very sad. I will wait and see if they come from the base but I wont hold me breath.

I'm sorry - I found out today (by looking at Louise's plant) that my Sophora is a goner.

my Dianella bit the dust last year too Cherry. The Libertia doesn't look too good either, but I'll leave that for a while just in case

There are a couple of reasons I am not in a hurry to replace it unless I get seeds, and one of them is the depressing look of them growing in the shady bit of the garden at the back of the old house - the one which had the orchard.

I've made the decision to steer clear of these borderline plants in the future, unless I can keep them in containers to move under cover. It's too annoying to keep losing them. My Coprosma Chocolate isn't looking very good either, it really struggled last year, this year could well have seen it off

I'm not surprised about your Coprosma, G. I lost all mine the previous winter, if you remember. Even fleecing them didn't save them.

I did think mine had died last year, but I forgot to dig it out and it started to grow again from the bottom, so this year I put a thick mulch of compost round the base and fleeced the top, can't win can you

What would anyone say about my Sophora? Is it worth leaving it in to see if it produces any new growth please?
