Question for rosie and or anyone else over the border. What is the general feeling among the locals in your area? Is there much debate going on?I don't have a vote despite being a Scot with traceable ancestry going back to 14th century and beyond. My own opinion for what it is worth is that we are better together as the United Kingdom. When I joined up I served not an English government or a Scots one but a British one Queen and country (UK) The old adage holds for me; 'United we stand, divided we fall' The two countries are far too intertwined and as in my case married as so many others are to people from all over the UK. Scotland and its people are certainly capable of going it alone but that doesn't mean that they should. If it aint broke don't try and fix it!

Well, all I am seeing when we are out and about is YES flags banners, posters. A few houses have Union Jacks on them. Both Graham and I are both of the same opinion, we are voting no. We believe we are better together. I would also not want Alex Salmond as Scotlands leader.
There has been no politicians knocking at my door asking my opinion, not that worries me particularly.
Scotland could be a very rich country in it got independance. The revenue from the oil and gas sector is beyond immense, and looks to continue for another 100 years apparently. Then there is the whiskey revenue and tourism. Tourism is massive here. Where we live is right in the middle of whiskey country and the tourists just don't stop coming, even through the winter, it slows then but trundles along. I very much doubt Westminster would be happy about giving up the taxes they get from Scotland.
But all in all, it's a no vote from us, We want Britain to stay Britain.

If Scots were to vote YES, they would end up with no army, no navy, no airforce, no currency, no membership of the EU, NATO and the United Nations and very few friends. I also believe lots of major companies would pull out of Scotland and surely BRITISH documents such as passports and driving licences would be invalid abroad.

It is a very difficult decision for folks to make right enough and I think it could well be a close run thing. When I came home on leave back in '66 I joined the SNP mainly as my parents were pro SNP. No A. Salmond then though. I never got actively involved though as still in the forces. Times have changed though and me also. I do hope that however it all turns out it will be for the better good. Only time will tell.

Rosie, am I correct in thinking that non Scots living and working in the country, are not eligible to vote? Also, as the North Sea oilfields are in international waters, why should Scots assume the oil companies will carry on using Scottish facilities?

I won't be drawn in. My views are too strong, but you can see the views I 'liked'.

I'm not sure to be honest Dai, I'm not Scots but have been here since 1976. I'll see if i can find out more. Aberdeen is the oil capital dai,the North Sea oil is pretty much run from here, also some rigs are in uk waters. Not that far off Shetland.

I believe if your on the electoral register up here you can vote. If it was the case that non scots couldn't vote 80% of the population in Aberdeen/shire would not be eligible.

You could move back temporarily sweetpea Not a chance rosie my heart might be there but the rest of me is in Wales do you know what rosie? When I was discharged back into civvy street I had applied about six months prior for a house in East Kilbride where they had a policy that you had to work there to be eligible for a house but that was clearly impossible for me despite the fact I had lived there and went to school there and joined up from there and could show loads of folk who had never worked there but had a house. i went to the offices and was told they had 'mislaid' my application and would have to reapply. Back in Exeter living with my inlaws at the time I popped into the council offices there and was immediately offered a place which my then OH turned down as unsuitable so they gave us a lovely home almost right away. I think that corruption is rife in certain places in Scotland and when after two years of living in Exeter I got a letter offering me the tenancy of a house in EK you can imagine what my answer was if Scotland vote yes and it turns out not as good as they hope then they can stew in their own juice. Sod the lot of them.

To be brutally honest, if the 'yes' wins I would seriously consider leaving Scotland.
