Well done - it might look messy to you, Cherry, but I think it's lovely. I like it a lot. Thanks for the photos. We bought our Nordmann Christmas tree yesterday but it only has its lights on it so far. I don't decorate the house, but I do like having a pretty tree. They had some artificial lit up trees, almost life size, for outdoors - they were beautiful, but the price was horrendous - would you believe £3,995? I think I'll rush out & get two of those trees Geranium, one for either side of the front door! We saw a lovely one at Fryers & nearly fainted when that one was about £2000! We got our Christmas boxes out of the loft the other day only to discover that the loft is full of condensation which had been dripping onto them but luckily only wetting the box not the contents, that's something else we will have to get sorted out soon. When we opened the boxes we hardly seemed to have anything & we can't remember if we accidentally threw things away or took them to the charity shop before we moved, so our decorations consist of two tiny artificial trees, 2 boxes of baubles (minus tree they fitted), a candle arch & a door wreath! I may treat O.H. to a small potted 'real' tree as he's sulking now! Well done to your grandson Geranium on having enough medals that he needs a display stand for them all, my dad had lots of medals for athletics when he was in the army, I think that gene must have skipped me - I only have a 2 star gymnastics certificate (could never manage to vault!) & a 3 star athletics one from school!

SueA, to ease the finances over Christmas, perhaps you should get a few decorations and buy the rest in the sales. My tree is quite small now and it will be cut by my neighbour next week. That is not too ostentatious daitheplant. I put white lights on the fir tree in the front, but I don't think I can manage this year as I can't climb the ladder.

I'll probably do that Cherry , I'm not mad on decorations & I don't want to pin things up on the walls after I spent months painting & decorating them myself. I might try & get some outdoor lights to go on the little potted conifer in the middle of the front garden if I can find some which run off batteries or something.

I thought £100 was crazy for an artificial tree from Tesco - that doesn't seem so bad now! (We went for an £8 charity shop version, i hasten to add ) Who is going to be outside much in midwinter to stare at a £4k tree anyway? That's a lovely candle wreath, Cherry. 'Proper' like that greenery is so nice. I sort of wish I'd done the wreath-making at Croft Castle now. But apparently they do it in a freezing big greenhouse, so I chickened out!

I decorated our Christmas tree yesterday and OH put the wreath on the front door - I am rather ashamed to say that it's an artificial one. I have been known to make them, but I like the colour of the baubles on my wreath, and it cheers me up, so I am defiant!

Good for you Geranium. Easy and pleasing. My son is going to his partner's house in Kent for Christmas dinner. I think this is normal, as it is usually girls' parents at Christmas and the boys' parents later. He said my Christmas is too intense and too much work. This was a telling remark and I shall be glad to cut it all back a bit. Christmas celebrations in this house were driven by too many people with ideas on what Christmas should be. I have given up the Christmas cake, and gave the recipe to my son's partner, who has made it for two years now. I will always make mince pies, which use my home made mince, because I don't like the bought ones.

I broke a tradition for me this week, for about 25 years I have always had a real tree, this year I have bought a prettyrealistic fake one, There isn't much room in this house for a big bushy tree! I am going to be making a wreath for my front door...eventually Cherry, nowt you say will make me think otherwise, I loved your arrangement

Is there a porch protecting the front door Rosie? You don't want to chase your wreath to Dufftown.
