Hi Raymond how did your meeting go not sure if I'm going to AGM at Kenilworth on sunday Hi Ian k hope your well mate. Meeting was ok. More talk on society business and what people hope to bring to plant sale I think I will have quite a lot ! Got the schedule so relooking at it all . Made some rather stupid Acquisitions. They will go to good homes though. let's see what I have and look at it then. Plenty of time to change the layout and numbers Darren Everest is going to Kenilworth he said so last night.

I am pleased to say that another 5 tubers have viable eyes or have shoots or sprouts ! Hehe
Parkland rave 2 eyes , nenekazi a reddish eye, mignon sunshine (similar to moonfire) one shoot and 2 of the bedding one's. Only waiting on one Weston pirate , one collarette bedding looks similar to pooh and one bronze bedding.

51 days on the heat mats and still no sign of any shoots on Winholme Diane tubers, so I have turned up the heat.

diggie no more than 17degree soil temp I was told. Place something directly over the tubers to block out the light like a pillow case or black bin bag. Check after a couple of days. Good luck !

ian and Tel can I ask a question with using dual purpose pot tubers in the ground either in basket pots or normal one's Do you have to change the number of blooms you would grow up ? Thinking to try this with staleen condessa and a clearview Sundance perhaps Weston pirate. Got a single of raisers pride heard that is a poor tuber maker. Also if growing plants in 35 to 40 litre pots would you reduced the number grown up eg winholm Diane from 6 to 7up to say 5up ? Pots will be mix of good quality compost levington m3 or clover professional and John innes no 3 with vermiculute and nutrimate suggested by scrumpy . Many thanks

Hi everyone
I know that kiwi Gloria for example the blooms get effected by manure . Is this also the case with most straight or incurve cactus dahlias and does manure have an adverse effect on semi cactus and other types ?

Thanks Tel Will grow as normal. Will also do some standard pot tubers In trays. The pot question not really based on diane more just a general question. Want to try it with various plants I plan to put all the small decs in large pots as more sheltered and some min cactus. I heard that one of the best giant growers of the past grew in pots. Taking my first cuttings today . Two ac Abby ready and a Clearview Debby. scrumpy zoe motoring now good 5 shoots on her about an inch to inch and a half. Only one pirate and two bedding not with shoots. Think I am ok with the other two pirate Sprouting nicely as are Mary's jomanda, hillcrest candy, winholm Diane, senzoe ursula and most if them. So made up with The progress so far.

Hi everyone I know that kiwi Gloria for example the blooms get effected by manure . Is this also the case with most straight or incurve cactus dahlias and does manure have an adverse effect on semi cactus and other types ? Never heard of that myself. My Dad has dug in loads of manure 4 to 6 sacks daily, hence the photos of huge mounds from his garden in my Diary photos. Almost all his exhibition dahlias are cactus / semi cactus. He wouldn't use manure if he thought that it would be a danger to them.

Moonlight it was Ian that told me about the manure and kiwi Gloria. Might just be that variety as they are not the easiest to grow by all accounts . That is good to know with your dad as I want and now will be digging lots more manure into the plots front and back ! yeah !

No feed at all for my Kiwi's, just a high nitrogen feed if the blooms come green eyed.

Very much a beginner myself. I have no experience to draw from. Haven't been able to ask my Dad about it because he hasn't been well. Like with everything with dahlias you have to discover what works for yourself by trial and error. The good thing about here you do have people that know what they are talking about and can put you in the right direction. Like you say it might be a variety 'quirk' but both Dad and I use manure on our dahlias and my Dad he is using a Lot!

Never used manure on my kiwi bed. But I remember seeing David Boyd's plot he manured his beds. I have never had any of my kiwi's touch the ring, but David could get them oversize.
