That's the spirit @raymond !!. That's why I don't rush taking cuttings. I bet the ones you take now will romp away!! Making some changes Lou moving everything to the summerhouse this coming week. Got a great tip from ian that there is not enough air circulation and that is causing my issues. I am watching the moisture as well will keep the medium a bit drier now. Will set up a fan in the summer house just to circulate the air Which I hope will help. On a good note Tel wyns favourite is a lovely looking plant and doing well as is garden friends. Picture taken just after potting up into 3inch pot. That makes a lot of sense Raymond....I was always a bit dubious about the amount of moisture you had round your tubers; particularly so early in the season. Your young plants are looking good. My Garden Friends is sprouting well....You are very lucky having Wyns Favourite, hope she does well for you.

Lou78W the tubers themselves are good. No rot on them except the odd little bit to be expected. Learned to be a bit more thorough in the trimming next year. It is my cutting medium. I am going to up the horticultural sharp sand content in the medium as well just want it moist But firm so it holds the cuttings. Been reading Philip damps book for more pointers.

Mark e they will also benefit from being covered with a cloche for the first few days and cover with news paper as Tel said keep them out of the sun the paper will do this, if you havn't got a plastic cloche then just damp news paper wil be ok. They will perk up just spray them from time to time

Things not going well. Totally fed up. Binned another 36 cuttings today all rotten . The soil does not drain I think it's this wetting agent they add now It's 50 per cent Sinclair potting compost peat based with the other 50percent sharp sand and Perlite.
I water it leave it to drain for 24 hours and still a disaster. I don't mist unless some Flagging And just lightly. What is most upsetting was this last failure was my main batch of ryecroft zoe , Ac Abby and Mary's jomanda with some senzoe Ursula wnd winholm Diane.
Changing again tomorrow to seed and cutting compost and some in sand. At this rate I will have nothing to put into the ground. Tubers still throwing well although zoe is slowing down .
Moved set up into summer house. That titan tray I could barely lift ! Must be a good 100 kilos now.
Only good thing @tels plants are doing well and the last batch of hillcrest candy is looking better. They are not in this mix. Had some coir and tried it. Just moist no more than that. Only one damped off as the others but the other 7 look ok.
I will see if halls still taking orders. I do not trust myself anymore . Total mess.

These new-fangled composts without peat, are the problem. They have no 'body' to them, being mostly grass clippings, and they add the wetting crystals because folk are too lazy to water their plants.
I've seen a sample of the new Arthur Bower's compost, and it looks better than their recent blends, but I always buy peat, so I can use it where necessary. Veg growers need good product, and I'm sure the show grower needs it, as well.
