You may have some of my little seedlings, if that is any good to you, but guessing you probably need help from ian, Tel scrumpy @lou, Moonlight, who might have spare show varieties.
Will look in other threads to see if I can find your news.
Chin up, Kentish Man! We have gardening in our bones, so I think you will find a way to sort this out

Anyone have luck with rooting cuttings that have buds on the ends?
A warm-climate trader has sent me a boatload of new release unrooted cuttings, with marble-sized buds I pinched off, and hollow stems. I took two leaf cuttings from the only one viable leaf set on each cutting, but have a sinking feeling that I am wasting my time. These are premium varieties, and I am trying my best... Can new sprouts come from the terminal end of a dahlia plant, assuming they root?

Hi CiCi you won't get new shoots from the terminal end but the leaf cutting should be fine. You could of course just take out the bud the root as normal hollow stems will root eventually, if needed (hot cross bun treatment required) make two cuts to form a cross in the bottom of the stem, they should then root fine.

This Dahlia Beginner has spent the last couple of nights finding pictures of what I am growing, the height, flower size, colour and type and put them into a table so I can see my dahlias at a glance ( I haven't found all details yet, its not as easy to research as you think!). Tomorrow Che is going to help me cut out a second set of the pictures and then we will work out a design placement ready for next month by moving the pictures around on a sketch of the borders (do I sound like I know what I'm doing? lol). I am trying not to count chickens before they hatch here but I am feeling slightly more positive that we may just get some flowers this year Thats if I don't over water things, remember to watch the weather forecast for overnight temperatures, bring in plants that need it etc etc etc (who said growing babies was easy lol)

Have half the cuttings still to process, as I was hoping for input to increase my chances so these will root. All new release 2015 AC varieties.
I've only seen roots coming from a leaf junction point... You're saying that notching the bottom of the stem NOT at a leaf junction can stimulate root growth in the stem itself? I want to make sure I understand.
Typically I have no need of rooting powder for dahlia cuttings. Perhaps I should dig it out of the shed for these?

Cat, when I bring all my paperwork and spreadsheets to the club meetings, all the old timers cackle at how funny I am with all my mini-pictures and variety details. They say I must have way too much time on my hands. Meanwhile, the new folks stare at me in awe, wondering if they ever could be as obsessed and crazed as me. I assure them it's contagious, so don't come too close.
When I have time, I'll try to download picts of my spreadsheets for you, so you don't feel alone in your obsession! Why bother with television programs when there are spreadsheets of imagination to be made?

Hi Paul and welcome, It's fantastic what you have achieved with no greenhouse well done. Those leggy dahlias you say you are going to take cuttings from take the top tips out this will encourage the side shots then you can root these you still have time, by the way nice house Hehe

Well looked at cuttings tonight something positive some Mary's jomanda rooted, some sorbet,Hapet Vinete and some more winholm Diane and I think two senzoe Ursula but they have been through the wars. peach delight not easy throws the skinniest thin cuttings that flag super easily. The remainder going to let come Much bigger.
Sorted out some stock if the rest cause problems. This has been a trial but I will get Through it.

I try and get nice photo of a single bloon of each and then organise it as a table. Then I end up chopping them up or just their names and use tiny bits of blutac to move them around until I think that I am happy. Always changes a bit at planting. I tried doing it using publisher but for me I think I probably get my best results using tables in Word.

Hi Cici, hope this finds you well. Yes that is right notching the stem base will encourage it to root quicker previously cut thing the stem across near the leaf node. This time of the year cutting tend to root quite quickly as for rooting powder or gel there should be no need for that this time of the season. Hope it works for you. Cheers Ian

This is my Review of 2014 - exactly what the plan had been and then I've added the notes, to remind the changes that I needed to make, errors I made and a mental note of things that I want to / want to avoid doing this year.
Like I said I recommend chopping them up and adding a tiny dot of blu tac to hold them in place while you are working out your plan. Each to their own - you just have to discover what works for you. p.s. I recommend creating your own gardening blog. It is really nice to be able to look back on successes and problems, you realise how far you come.
