This is my Review of 2014 - exactly what the plan had been and then I've added the notes, to remind the changes that I needed to make, errors I made and a mental note of things that I want to / want to avoid doing this year.
Like I said I recommend chopping them up and adding a tiny dot of blu tac to hold them in place while you are working out your plan. Each to their own - you just have to discover what works for you. p.s. I recommend creating your own gardening blog. It is really nice to be able to look back on successes and problems, you realise how far you come.
Moonlight, this is basically what I am doing for first time, so I feel happy now you have posted yours. Thank you!!!

Hi Cici, hope this finds you well. Yes that is right notching the stem base will encourage it to root quicker previously cut thing the stem across near the leaf node. This time of the year cutting tend to root quite quickly as for rooting powder or gel there should be no need for that this time of the season. Hope it works for you. Cheers Ian Thank you. I tried the 'hot cross bun' technique on a couple of the top cuttings. Hope it helps, as these are difficult ones. Already lost two out of eight, while my normal tuber cuttings are rooting left and right. Maddening to have top varieties I would never buy the first year, and watch them evaporate in front of my eyes.

Here's my pre-season worksheets for this year, four pages long with tuber and cutting counts. Needs updated, as I have another page with notes of additions to make. I keep a running tally of the quantity of each variety, with '|' being an unsprouted/unrooted tuber, 'T' as Tuber with sprout and C as cutting. Normally I plant out 2 of each variety, though I try to make it 3 through cuttings. Here's a rough draft of my beds and dahlia form assignments, still in progress. I enjoy the 'biggies' along the fence, back to back with the cactus dahlias. I'm still figuring out where the other forms are going to live this season... I have about 25 feet allocated to multiple plants of each for show purposes, where'd they will be partially shaded by the garage. The rows on the bottom left are dug out but not prepped for planting yet- still playing with possibilities there. Here's last year's 'plant'agram, showing actual location of each variety, along with growing info like bloom date, height and culling decisions. I have learned the hard way to only plan generalities, and save the details for when the plants are put into the ground. I always made miscalculations when I preplanned too much, and messed me up the entire season when reality didn't match the paperwork.
