A small breakthrough today potted up 14 well rooted cuttings. A mixture of Weston pirate, winholm Diane, some bedding ones, a senzoe Ursula and some marys jomanda And would you believe it a hillcrest candy without a rotten growing tip !
I know the problem was the moisture . Now I can see for myself what it needs to be I won't make the same mistake Again.
Took another 36 cuttings today and will take until end of April as some varieties I want for pot tubers.
Also potted up my 6 surviving seedlings. All had nice roots on them. Not in 3inch pots yet but two inch one's. On the heat mat .
Much cooler and cloudy today thank God.

Raymond why are your seedlings on a heat mat. Is that wrong tel ? Been a bit cold and overcast today . Heat mat was only at minimum setting. I have taken them off . They should not be heated in any way ? Propagator ? Summer house is unheated it gets hot when Sun is out but can get a bit chilly at night.

Summer house will be fine a bit of fleece over them at night if a frost is forecast. My seedlings are out on the allotment two layers of fleece covering them if it drops below 5 overnight. I treat seedlings like cuttings once potted on let them settle down for a few days, then outside during the day for a week, inside at night, or cover with fleece at night, if you do not have the room to bring them back in at night. Ps, if you put the plants outside, don't forget the slug pellets, otherwise you could be feeding your slugs and snails very expensive food.

Thanks Tel and slug pellets are on. Can I ask one garden friends got a bit battered in transit and it is long with no lower leaves they got a bit damaged so I had to remove them carefully when I potted up it is growing well but looks a bit bare . If I stop it will it fill out. The there is one small leaf lower down coming.

If you stop it now, it will flower too early, unless you double stop it, this as not been done with Garden Friends before. I would just leave it to do its own thing.

I was worried about the cuttings today very hot and intense Sun again but delighted to say that all is ok. Lost one but that is par the course . I think I might have a load rooted. Two full trays all show ones ! Fingers crossed. Taken about 10days or so. The only thing not happy with is my first two winholm Diane rooted cuttings. No upwards growth growing tip looks malformed a bit brown . Going to bin I think will leave another week or so and see. Very good roots on them though. Tel wyns favourite is storming on ! Filling out lovely straight nicely jointed and very elegant looking plant. Garden friends also doing Very well and the leaves on everything going a lush deep green colour. Taking more cuttings tomorrow and will do until end of the month that is my cut off. Maybe first week of May for pot tuber Stock. scrumpy zoe has responded for me and firing up another 9 nice shoots Almost ready to take. Ursula also firing now big time. Got one Ursula rooted and more I think in the trays that look to have. Thanks to everyone ian ste b Tel scrumpy dahliadave daitheplant and anyone I have forgotten for your guidance. Learned a hell of a lot this first time around. Won't make the same mistakes again I hope ! !

Hi Raymond don't bin your winholme if it's got good roots, you could cut down to a pair of leaves and you might get two shoots growing then take one off and you have a nice little plant if it does not work you've not lost nothing.
