I've been looking at Heirloom dahlia pictures, and found out the name of the purple and white one that mum kept growing for years, from the 50s onwards..... DEUIL DU ROI ALBERT. There was also the red and white equivalent, which was a bit less vigorous. Does anyone know what that could have been? We lived near Beauchamp Clark's nursery, so they could have come from there.

The only thing that I am spraying at the moment is tap water. My seeds and baby seedlings that are in my lounge are sprayed with water and my dahlia plants and tubers are sprayed with water and kept in my unheated greenhouse - window opened all the way and door open during the day.
I have some food on order but not yet arrived, even so I won't be going mad on it just yet. p.s. I'm certainly not an expert!

Ian my daughter has just come in and read your message and now thinks that I have just ordered a take away...
mind you, something worth considering after the busy day that I have just had. Haven't had time for a dinner yet. I'll explain later in my Diary and I want to do an update about my seedlings... hmmm food or update... hmmm Maybe I should have gone with a take away, then I wouldn't have to think about it.

Sorry about that, have the Northern plants acclimatised yet and settled in to Southern ways?

Sorry about that, have the Northern plants acclimatised yet and settled in to Southern ways? They are doing fine although they sometimes don't get the Southern sense of humour.

Oh yes Cat. We must not accuse you of just being interested in your precious dahlias. You have to speak to non-dahlias as well.

Cat have you read 'Dahlias for Beginners', which is the story of Wildlife Friendly growing dahlias for the first time with Tel's help. Read up to Page 24. This would make a good film, but you would not believe it. I have had one or two pupils on here.
