lesley that bloom has past it. Be rigorous in dead heading it once it has opened like that petal fest. It is better before it is fully open. Purely for garden but nice colours with the lilac edging. Enjoy it.

I sent my friend in Suffolk a hillcrest candy and low and behold this opening. She is struggling though with spider mites. Have hit her hard and she is a very very experienced gardener. She gets them every year. If majestik works here she will get it. I hope it survives and makes a tuber as she does not like white blooms but I will take it thanks very much.

Lesley do not let certain growers put you off, take off the bloom and the next blooms will be better. The variety may not be a show variety but I bet it looks good in the garden. You keep posting your pictures. Look at Raymond's bloom it is holding its head in shame of the comments made.
Good luck Ian

It's fair to say not all Dahlia growers want to show their blooms, and just like them in the garden or as a few cut flowers. So keep on posting Dahlia pics everyone even if they're not up to Tels, Steves, Scrumpy and Ians level. I like to do both and was still cutting blooms for home in late October thanks to the very mild Autumn. Here's a pic from the Allotment right at the bitter end. Anyone care to name the varieties in this bucket of Dahlias?

For those that are criticising my comments above, I put some smiley things on to show it was meant to be a humorous post. As people don't appear to be able to appreciate that I shan't bother posting anymore.

Well said Dave , am growing 60 dahlias that am not going to show because I like them I've got a seedling which is never going to make it but I like the colour so it's in my back garden , if you want to post your pics Lesley please do, the flower was not a show type but it was well grown. And a change from seeing kiwis , Diane's ,moonlights , challenger.

When posting remarks on members blooms, please take into account we are not all the same, what one person may take in good fun another may not. I try to judge if a person will take a comment I make has a bit of banter or not, not always correctly I may had, the regular posters in the dahlia section do enjoy a bit of friendly banter, But we have to be careful when a member posts anything, who does not normally post, in the dahlia section. So Lesley and Scrumpy I hope you both, will shake hands and come out fighting.
