scrumpy I am sure it just came across not as intended :)Everyone is passionate about their gardens etc... Not all look for the show qualities you or other exhibitors would. Trust me I had my hissy fit last year ! Hahaha which you saw !! ferncliff is no show dahlia can be shown in the USA though. It gets better as it cools as well as it holds its centre longer. If that is the correct terminology. Most attractive in the garden as long stems and a medium or a full small even if not disbudded plus robust habit. You might have to add some different ones in for your daughters wedding. Has she picked a colour scheme ? I hope everyone posts all there pictures. I miss growing purely for pleasure and display. Next year I think I won't show I want to enjoy them and learn more.

Lesley do not let certain growers put you off, take off the bloom and the next blooms will be better. The variety may not be a show variety but I bet it looks good in the garden. You keep posting your pictures. Look at Raymond's bloom it is holding its head in shame of the comments made. Good luck Ian That bloom is terrible but oh a candy sport in creamy white . I will take it ! Cheers ! hehehe

Well there's MJ of course, The Red med SC is Wittermans Superb. (The Orange one as you called it) is Golden Crown, a med SC. (started as a £1 tuber from Parkers) The red ball is Cornel. Small yellow SC is Lemon Eleganze.(got rid now) The salmon med Dec on the right is Lakeland Autumn(also gone now) No Carstone or Hillcrest Raymond. I have too many varieties. After seeing what performs this year, I need to pare them down to perhaps 8. Do like a bit of colour though. Got to stay off the Dahlia nurseries websites though, it's fatal!

When posting remarks on members blooms, please take into account we are not all the same, what one person may take in good fun another may not. I try to judge if a person will take a comment I make has a bit of banter or not, not always correctly I may had, the regular posters in the dahlia section do enjoy a bit of friendly banter, But we have to be careful when a member posts anything, who does not normally post, in the dahlia section. So Lesley and Scrumpy I hope you both, will shake hands and come out fighting. Well said fish face. Ha ha ha ha ha ha

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Each to their own. I look at lots of different dahlias and think that is horrible why on off would anyone grow that... ...yet some how I've still grown Mary's Jomanda this year.

The first time I saw a photo of this I fell in love because I had never seen anything like it before. After a right faff I got hold of a tuber and l loved the randomness of it. Like someone had grown a dahlia and thrown a can of paint at it.
Much as I loved it, I am not happy that already at least 1 of seedlings looks like it has shared dna.
I haven't put seedling photos up in the seedling thread because I was hoping to have something better. I've found that in the past I have been overwhelmed by some of the posts that members make because even though this is my 3rd year of growing dahlias I am still very much a beginner and very wet behond the ears. I find that I often ask the same questions over and over again. Partly because I don't understand it and partly because I am not confident. I haven't been putting up as many photos as usual in my Diary because my dahlias don't look anywhere near as good as other members here.
I like the beginners threads because those experienced growers and exhibitors take time to explain and do their best to share their advice and experience. scrumpy is one of the people who I have learnt from. I had a lovely lilac sport come up from my Willo's Violet but I didn't know what I was doing and panicked. I liked hearing about scrumpy's sports and how he managed to keep them going. I've learnt lots from ian who is so good that he even makes me seriously consider joining the NDS but feel torn. Then there is Tel with his seedlings, I really appreicate the way that you are so positive and encouraging.
And Lou78W, the voice of common sense and lesley your posts always come across as warm and friendly.
I have made so many friends on Garden Friends. Please all keep posting I've learnt so much from you all and I still like to consider you my Garden Friends.
