Hi Raymond your plants look good , if they are clean I would not spray now if I was you , if your worried about black fly , get a one litre hand sprayer put a mix in it in case you see anything and if you do hold a piece of card or news paper behind the stem then give it to them , or a small make up brush put some ant powder or vitax py powder in a top and brush it on them , don't over load the brush hold top underneath, check them every night or morning when your on a walk about.

Hi ste b firstly congratulations on the big win ! Well deserved mate. My plants are ok I should have grown some better I went wrong with my stop on some was too aggressive and did not pick strong enough shoots . Also some will not make size like Ruskin Michelle. I do need to spray for fungal I can see it coming and think some more smut. Will use my small sprayer a lot more accurate on the foliage only. No black fly or visible pests but will go to poundland and buy some cheap makeup brush and put a touch of ant powder behind the bud. Vaseline on and will reapply when I cane the stems . Ant powder going down this week when a dry day at the base . Non stop rain today hope it's not like this next week as lots opening now and just flicking and showing colour. Won't have as much as I would have liked but hopefully enough. Should have some nice things for the mini show on the 16th . Got some varieties opening or showing colour I don't think been on garden friends when grown in UK. Ac Abby medium cactus Hapet daydream min ball Parkland rave small cactus Strike a light med semi cactus bi colour bred by Ken stock from kenora sunset. Stillwater brilliant med semi cactus purple pink blend Tom mcclelland min cactus Will post pictures when fully out. If nice I hope to have them in my show in one particular colour class 2 vases 3 bloom 6 distinct colours wins a halls voucher these can hopefully supplement the others but main aim is three blooms novice. Need to see on the day what I have ! All the best with the rest of your shows

Thanks for reminding me Lou78W make sure to take some kitchen roll or a cloth . Heard the Vaseline gives the stems a nice sheen. Need to sit and do my list. Off for 4 days before the show. Will prepare my crates, buckets, oasis etc.... Must get a tin of raid fly spray for over spraying the night before indoors. Got my list in my head just need to tweak it and right it down and of course need some flowers to take ! Hehehe easier said than done. I have a hillcrest Jersie flicking.

I am not that brave. Respect.

Some of my Minley carol pom stems are twisting I can't understand why the same is happening to my mates. Any ideas anyone?

Mark may be lack of water give them plenty, I think they don't like any lack of water. I have some Minley Carol and one or two have done this but after a good watering they are better but obviously not straight, so plenty of water should be the answer. Also tie them in closer this will give longer stems, but water is the answer. Hope some of this makes sense. Good luck with your shows Mark
Raymond good luck with your show take it easy and enjoy, remember you can only do your best and take everything you have ready with you, obviously you will know what you are entering vase them up then you can use the spare blooms else where. Don't be one of the ones who says I had some of those better on the plot. What ever is ready will not be there for long, so take it with you. Most importantly enjoy the experience.

Very good advice there ian.
Raymond do you have to pre-show register your entries?

Raymond do not spray directly at the blooms, or they will turn brown. Let the droplets just fall from above the blooms.

Tel, just from above the blooms? ?? When I have used fly killer out of those pressurised cans like Raid, I have the tubs on the floor and point the fly killer up towards the ceiling. The first time in my younger day's and not knowing any better, I sprayed the blooms and damaged them all.
