Moonlight not being brave probably being stupid hahaha . I will enter everything I have on the day that looks remotely any good 8DI have to submit my entries by Thursday next week so I can enter a class but not enter if things do not work out so at least I won't waste anything entry fee 20p so I think I can afford it . Been going through the plants and it looks like I will have a choice of about 80 to 100 blooms maybe more so gives me some chance to select something decent I hope. Concerned about Ruskin Andrea buds are as big as candy ! Haha All being well I will have enough for more one than one vase. ian I will enjoy it. Can only show what I have if my best this year not good enough then always next year maybe. I know this I am a better dahlia grower than last year. Got to help set up the show on the Saturday afternoon and also take it down on the Sunday. Tel with the raid spray about 2 feet above the blooms and let the spray just mist down ? I might have 4 wyns has suddenly shown colour and got petals forming and buds swelling. scrumpy I should have senzoe Ursula the colour is stunning super vibrant lilac . I have caned two stems today strong stems but very thin. Should have both zoes. This rain has made a big difference the plants are loving it. Just don't want it next week ! Hehe Here is raisers pride. Amazing what 24hours in water can do to a rather poor bloom. Still not good but not horrific. Hehe I cut it off rather than have it mauled by yesterday's rain. It's beautifully staged ! Lol

I'm sure you will do well at the show Raymond....but don't take blooms just for the sake of it. If they are not damn near perfect or you are not sure.....don't show 'em. Set yourself a standard and stick to it....quality over quantity should be your mantra.(lecture over pet xx)

I will only take what I think is good Lou78W . Will probably take me 4 hours to stage one vase ! Hahaha I will cut a lot if i have then then spend time sorting by size, colour, centre and angle . Looking for sets. The good thing about section c is I can put in mixed vases I already checked that so long as size centre and angle consistent. Novice entry my best 3 blooms of any cultivar or cultivars although I would like three of the same. The zoes look a good candidate as does candy. I would like to enter more than one class . Growing almost 100 plants and the time and money I would like more than just 3 blooms on show. Lets see what happens. Not expecting much especially from Mary's jomanda made a pigs ear of that and dikara superb ! Lol

Tel, just from above the blooms? ?? When I have used fly killer out of those pressurised cans like Raid, I have the tubs on the floor and point the fly killer up towards the ceiling. The first time in my younger day's and not knowing any better, I sprayed the blooms and damaged them all. Never heard of spraying fly spray over the blooms , does it not mark them? Sounds a good idea if you have a few runners on them , might give it a trial run on some different colours see what happens.

Been very heavy rain and also strong winds here the last 3 days. Not been able to get much done as work as well. Had to haul up two Weston pirate that had partially collapsed. A Claire de lune gone splat. Looks like my grenidor pastelles and kenora sunsets ruined . Never mind. Hillcrest candy seems to stand the rain ok as does narrows Sonia. Did not think I would have staleen condessa as an option for showing but has come through very fast 4 buds with colour one about to start flicking Moonlight it is only 3.5 feet for me ! Yours must have been a triffid version on steroids !hahaha

Actually I think I am a dahlia bore! My husband has been very tolerant and understanding but I think a lot of the time he lets it all glaze over him. I think that he isn't the only one, once my Dad and I get talking, I am pretty sure that my Mum, Sister do as well. Now my Mum must have known in advance about my Dad and his dahlias and well my Sister and myself were born in to it but as my Husband has mentioned before, it wasn't anything that he had heard about until my Dad started growing them again.
So when is your first show Cat?

when is the kent show ray It's a week on Sunday Rob. So if buds not part open by then they won't make it but I have another show 10days later. My kiwis won't make it but that is fine. God knows if they will be any good anyway. Really hope Ruskin Michelle is ready I do like that very much. A bit small for a medium but really lovely. scrumpy greenways zoe so far looks better than jersie but boy is that an aggressive grower. Stuggling to control it. Senzoe opening and is stunning. I should have grown more as the late cuttings I got have caught up and opening as well.
