Tel, is there anywhere to buy Garden Friends? I am looking for some good collarettes this year both for show and the garden. I only have Pat Knight which is not doing much at the moment so may have a blind tuber.
Many thanks.

Simon if you feel the tuber is blind, try to shock it in to growing by splitting it in two or pouring boiling water around the crown may also help. You could always try my black bag method, I sometimes place tubers into a black bin bag for 10 - 14 days by the end of this period the tubers should have shoots showing, the tubers are best put in the bag lightly moist. My tubers never fail with this method good luck . Ian

Did not know about the black bag method Ian, will keep that in mind.

I am enjoying this cold weather. First decent winter in a while I am crossing my fingers it will help with mother nature. I know we had a lovely summer last year but wildlife really does need the cold bit too. Does anyone else feel this or am I the odd one out? lol

I wish it was colder here. I need a sharp spell to help with the nasties Tel Cat . Oh sorry cat I had not said welcome from me as well. Good luck with your dahlias. Its Gonna be full of slugs and snails again here and others This spring. Nemaotodes from March and the pellets which some liquid for good measure around the delphiniums. Things here all over the place plant wise I still have agapanthus trying to flower. Alliums coming through as well also april flowering tulips coming through. Roses and hydrangeas with plenty of new growth showing. Checked my Austrian Hapet tubers tonight and they are sprouting in the peat. I was concerned about them as they where skinny and had started to shrivel so put them in mushroom trays lined in fleece with barely moist peat. They have plumped up and are starting to send out hair roots. Need to get them set up asap. The fat tubers I have went into vermiculite and a couple I thought would rot and they have firmed up well and look good. If looking at all shrivelled I gave the vermiculite a slight mist with tepid water. So far only one in bin called hy pimento a garden variety as not keeping anyway but sad as a pretty dahlia. Stillwater brilliant for my display neon pink large semi cactus was dodgey to start with was a bit soft has a bit of rot but think it might be salvageable with some surgery and sulphur. If not station house stock it. Great looking and fab colour for the garden. Will do the surgery on Monday. Can I ask has anyone used aluminium deep trays before for their tubers. Two wests have them and you can get a cover for them as well . I have the garland titan trays coming 3 of them but like the look of this aluminium and would conduct the heat well. Can use the titan trays for the begonias which I usually start in mid April and also the cuttings in individual pots in the large trays. Have a great weekend everyone I am working so no gardening sadly.

Claire De Lune, Pink Pat & Perc and Karen G, tubers, are now in the heated propagator, no room on the heated bench for them. I am supposed to be cutting down too.
