Raymond, watch that you don't judge the difference too harshly in the favor of one technique or another, if there is too much time between digging the tubers in each trial. I've heard growers getting very different results with a few weeks between digging, with cold rains sometimes 'causing' rot later during the storage time. The thought is that water-borne fungus can access the tuber starch easier when the plant is going into dormancy, and can rot the tuber a couple months later. No proof of this, but educated guess.
In my trials, I try to store parts of the same clump differently, so I am assured of the validity of the test and not wondering if it was simply that particular plant that would have failed regardless of the storage method. You should see my notes! ;-) I'm insane in what I track, with scribbles tough for even me to decipher. In a way, I'm glad I lost the hundred plus varieties this season to the early flooding, as my cellar and notepad is quite full enough with the 170+ I'm tracking. Keep trying to cut back, and would be hopeless without natural attrition caused by my learning curve.

Oh! Somehow I thought you were half-dug and the rain kept you from finishing, Raymond. Sorry for unwarranted suggestions.
Dahlia trading and buying is at a frenzied state here in the U.S. As vendors open for business, they sometimes sell out of varieties within half an hour as eager growers lay in wait for the starting bell. Some 'reserve' tubers before opening, much to the frustration of the patently waiting buyer that hadn't pestered the vendor.
Even though I had promised myself that I would only do a few trades and NOT buy from vendors this year, I completed my fourth vendor transaction last night around 1am. Believe it or not, I am exercising constraint compared to other growers I talk to. It's hard not to be caught up in it, when there are minute-by-minute updates on which vendors are now accepting orders and cries of dismay as much-sought-after varieties are sold out. This is Christmas at the candy store for growers!

So what have you acquired for 2016 having to restrain myself from buying so a frown from me . TOO MANY! A lot of them are for display, and a few I'll attempt at grooming for show, like Blythn Softer Gleam.

Well dug my tubers today and they are very good and in good condition so leaving them in this year has paid off. All the mild weather has been good and I think we have only had one frost on our plot. So as soon as they are trimmed they can be boxed up ready for the off.

I also checked my tubers yesterday. Some of my pot tubers are coming into life. I keep my tubers in the garage over winter but due to the mild weather we have experienced some have decided to come into growth. Much too early for me but will see what with the other tubers.
