Today I covered my new purpose dug dahlia bed with old roofing felt to weed suppress and to start building the heat for end of April May. Yes I know its a long way off yet lol but it was to hand!!

I have been given some Dahlia seeds to sow. Can I get you guys recommendations as to best way to proceed in terms of compost mix, covering with compost or? put in propagator or window sill.
Many thanks as always.

Many thanks as always. I just use seed and cutting compost, the seeds I have sown are in a full size seed tray. just lightly cover the seeds with the compost. Watering I stand my tray in water until the surface is damp. Cling film I use to cover the tray to hold moisture in, my first tray is on top of the kitchen cupboard, I will start checking for germination after 4 days, on a daily basis then. Once the first seedling is through I move mine into the greenhouse. I have had seeds through in 5 days onwards.

First cuttings taken 19th February have now rooted. We shall definitely be growing Ryecroft Zoe and Ruskin Andrea. Andrea has gone mad, 11 rooted from one tuber, another 10 taken, and I only need 6. And taken lots from the 2nd tuber also. Wish all the other varieties were as obliging.
