I think you are right to grow Edie 5up ian Sundance did not have a nice centre in Kent they all grew it 4 up and still made a large 6up with halls and was better centre. Edie was a bigger bloom than challenger in Kent. I am trying this Clearview Debby. Cuttings came very late as they damped off very easily. They say for a small grow it 8up I think the petal is more a medium. So will try it 5 or 6up as a medium. Trialling it only 2 plants. So one as a small and one as a medium. Probably won't make my show but not worried got plenty of others to hopefully show. Polventon kristobal although a cracking dahlia there was not a matched set of centres to it shown. That is a numbers dahlia and also has two distinct colourations. Ps he beat Darren everest as well. His poms although I hate gurtla twilight where superb.his individual entry of it was lovely. If I can grow a set like that I would not be complaining. Hehehe any of them. Andrew has given me great advise and been very good to me . I think he kept his best for the national and I hope he has a great season.

I hope everyone's plants are ok in the heat. Good luck everyone . 32 degrees Celsius here on the outskirts of Guildford today. Thought I had lost a couple of Oakwood Goldcrest Raymond but plenty of water has revived them. Forecast for tomorrow is rain, fingers crossed.

Pink suffussion is a mess diggie some ok. Delighted your goldcrests ok. But The soaking and watering deep last night kept them ok. Kenora sunset showing some wilt. Was going to flower it but I will stop it tomorrow. More concerned about the big shrubs etc... Will spray full insecticide and fungicide . Mildew no doubt not far off in this dry weather.

Hi everyone it is 21.25 and their are Hailstones falling the size of golf balls don't think the dahlias will survive this never mind the sunny weather I hope you both manage to salvage something, I am gutted for you both. I know what its like to lose plants due to adverse weather conditions, few year ago I lost 60 plants in August due to standing water on the allotment for 3 days.

Panicked a bit last night! We got the golf ball sized hailstones at home at about 1am! All I could think about was how everything would be when I got here in the morning. Only live about 1 mile away but although the fields with our 15,000 Dahlia and Chrysanthemums got a good soaking the hailstones seemed to have missed us! Now just need to finish sorting out all stock making sure we are covered, tie up loose ends, set out pot tubers, prepare for next seasons catalogue and fit in a weeks holiday, my youngest daughters graduation, an annual stocktake, printing the catalogue and posting out plus a few other things before disbudding and tying in starts and all of a sudden they will be flowering and we'll be off to Wisley and Harrogate as well as fitting in our Open Day for the NGS (Sept 13th)and we'll be booking orders again for next season!!! Happy growing and best wishes for all the shows and hopefully might bump into one or two of you!
