Like your pics Lou, I like any of the 'Rossendales' and that looks like a winner. I've grown a couple of Mr Kershaws this year and they're great. Did any of the Dahlias in particular catch your eye Lou? It was too cold @davidv to have a really good look, and OH was eager to get away (not being a fan )...I did like the double orchid flowered one, as a garden plant. "Parky" is quite pretty but too similar to Brian's Dream. Lavender seems to be a popular colour atm. I'm quite a fan of the collarettes too.

Well that's the greenhouse all sorted out, ready for the tubers to lifted and stored. Everything taken out yesterday, sealed up, then a couple of sulphur bombs lit last night. Lots of dead bugs on the floor this morning. All staging and greenhouse jet washed. Everything now back in. Bl**dy knackered now, but enjoying a nice cold beer and waiting for a lovely roast dinner......... Well, I think I'm worth it!!!!! hehe

Started lifting the tubers at home. The ground here is clay, so I like to lift early to stop them rotting in the wet ground. I give them a short, back and sides to get rid of the rat tails, remove some of the compost. Then it's upside down on the metal grids to dry out for a few days, with a gentle fan moving the air around. By the time these are ready for their peat bed, the allotment ones will be ready for the same treatment.
The ones on the left before being trimmed. After trimming at the back......

Garden News has put in a report on Harrogate Autumn Flower Show, this week....I said I would let ste b know if they did. You got a mention Steve, as did Ian Davis and a few others. A pic of Tom Bebbington with his winning giant dec's a few others too but whoever did the editing made a muck of Jack Gott's name on his pic and Dave Spencer's min/decs have been labelled as poms !! A few other id mistakes too....

Good picture of JG and his exhibit and one of my mate Ray W with his giant dec he won silver with that.He will go to great lengths to win silver and he is as cunning as a fox , when we where at the NEDA show staging on the car park I thought I had a chance of a medal with a vase of kiwi Gloria , Ray spotted it and made an excuse he had to nip out for some fags and reversed over it . Result Ray won silver and I won zyltrc he he he

A proper dirty trick steve. 'A cunning fox' is not the phrase I would have used! I bet he was really 'apologetic' haha

Yes it really is a cracker Steve. The other blooms in the shot look outstanding to me as well. Talking of Giants, looking through my show photos I found this one from Culcheth 2014, a pretty good collection of Giants/Large. A familiar face wandered into the shot cant put a name to him haha! On the same subject down at the plot I have 1 Giant bloom, not bad for November. Mark Hardwick.

It's a bonus bloom that's for sure Steve. Left all the plants well alone since Last show at Rammy. Will lift them mid Nov frost or no frost. Need to get them put away in boxes for their 12/14 week rest since no heated greenhouse. Did 9 shows this year and had a few vases of Dahlias at 8 of them. (Ramsbottom x2, Culcheth x2, edenfield x2, Woolston, Worsley and Glazebrook) Being realistic, not at Southport level yet but growing respectable blooms for local shows.

Hi Dave I've seen some of your dahlias and like we have said more numbers and your dahlias will do ok at southport , you will learn far more than just going to local shows, when I started I had 50 plants and southport was my first show it was a great place to learn , you can put veg in as well.
