I've not attempted to retype the 'lost post' I guess it will in down in some kind of urban legend what on earth was she talking about? What was she going to say? What could possibly take 37 minutes? And why didn't she just round it up and say 40 minutes? (Actually going to leave it till tomorrow unless the wind changes direction and I change my mind) nb I realise that a lot of people wonder what I am talking about frequently.

Not really, but people might think you are suffering from a perfectly normal touch of depression. I know you are holding together for the family, but think of yourself sometimes. Of course, I could be wrong and you might tell me to mind my own business, but I am really saying we do understand more than you think.

It always looked pretty with the dahlias anyway, but it is easier if you can walk to the cabin. Now you can contact the roofer. A satisfying job done.

Moonlight did you know there's a building at the end of your garden?

With all the rain that we still keep having, my lovely swollen seed heads are rotting because I haven't been able to go down to the dahlias with the monster that is work and when I have had a chance to I felt guilty about doing it, as other things need to take priority.
As you know we have a cabin at the bottom of our garden. We discovered that it was leaking a couple of months back. Think pre-shows. I don't know what is wrong but our roofer hasn't got back to us yet but if he could he wouldn't be able to get to the cabin as I have managed to cultivate* a dahlia jungle.
The priority has to be on getting the gas back on and I wanted to put stuff from the house into the cabin which leaked - so clearing the pathway of dahlias became a short term means to an end priority.
I only 'trimmed' the dahlia 'branches' that were blocking the route to the path and I used the opportunity to collect up those seed heads of the dahlias along the path. After over a year of planning which type/colour of each plant and where in relation to it's neighbours it needed to go - it would have been a shame to just let them rot with the rest of the chopped off branches.
I am really glad that HH understood why I did collect the seeds.
This is what I have so far:
Barbarry Surprise Min D, Tel Birkenshaw Wyn's Favourite Small D, Trengrove Millennium Medium D, Kenora Challenger Large SC, Weston Pirate Min C, Weston Corsair Min C, Barbarry Pip Min D, Marston Lilac Min D, Marston George Min D, Blyton Softer Gleam S Ball, Kilburn Glow WL and 1* Kenora Valentine seed.
I hope that there will be some good seedlings this year. Striking colours mixed with Challenger, Softer Gleam and T. Millenium and good form.
Last year Nuland's Josephine dna dominated the seedlings so this year I kept removing the blooms. I have loads of Nuland's Jo 2014 seeds left but I am not fussed if I use them or not. *There had been 2 but one got lost. I haven't been able to go through Moonlight or Peach Delight or my min semi / cactus - including my Fred Fire seedling. If I don't get a change to collect seeds from them - at least I have some seeds to sow.
So I can't complain and it looks like quite a harvest in the photo. p.s. Even better news is that both girls collected seeds their own dahlia plant this year.

Thank you Lou78W, Cherry, Cat, SueA.
SueA you made me laugh! Pirate who is working on a journal stopped what she was doing and came into the lounge to ask what I was laughing about.
p.s. Did anyone 'get' the 'Happy Halloween!' dahlia joke?

Moonlight thanks for the photos I've never seen dahlia seeds and your photos show the differences. Great that both girls could collect their own seed too. Collecting seed would be something I'd like to try in the future. I just want to get this first season out the way I thought the Halloween joke was a lovely touch - which dahliua is that? It's a lovely bright orange, I rather like it I sincerely hope today has been a better day for you.

Great seed collection Moonlight I'm not sure if I got the dahlia pic. joke , I just thought the dahlia might be called 'Halloween' or 'Pumpkin' because of the gorgeous deep orange colour.

This is one of the first dahlias that I grew and it is called 'Happy Halloween' and I was attracted to it's bright pumpkin orange colour. For the dahlia purists out there (nb Including my Dad) it is not good enough - so a real Halloween Decoration for my post.
I just liked the bright in your face orange of it all but if you hope to exhibit or cross it with other varieties - it isn't good enough and so I don't grow it now but I still do like the colour. So there you go my 'Happy Halloween' dahlia pun intended with it's Nightmare educing form.
Thing is with dahlias and most things, no one should try and tell you what to like and what is best and we shouldn't feel obliged to agree but also tastes change. It was mission impossible trying to get a dahlia called Candy Jayne, finally got it - grew it last year and kept in a tub this year. Won't grow it again. I had toyed with the idea of taking a photo of Jomanda and a Mary's Jo, then clip arting witches hat and broom - as my Halloween message but can't be bothered. Actually going to be a bigger rebel. Next year I am not going to grow either. Which will be interesting. Especially as I've decided to try for the Miniature cup. Oh well.
p.s. (I've seen a pom this year that I'd like to grow that is an 'orange' orange.
