Great pictures moonlight your dad has some great seedlings again. One looks a bit like Ruskin Michelle in the colour. I hope to clear an area in the winter for some fruit and veg .

I got rumbled today...
All I did was ask a question 'onest guv'nor.
I am not going to be boring but life here at home (not on Garden Friends) is rather stressful / miserable. No boring details (unless the wind changes direction) I remind myself that there are a lot worse things going on - but sometimes it is harder than others to stay chirpy - especially when everyone else in the house are either miserable / stressed but all cold.
Anyway that's just about all I need to say right now.

No heating in winter ? Easy peasy lemon squeezy. (a) electric fan heaters. Cheap to buy, expensive and fiddly to run. But I've done it for the last five years... it is possible. (b) Extra bedding and duvets. (c) "Bundling". I've not tried this yet, as I don't have anyone to bundle with. But the Eskimo's highly commend it.

Don't know any Eskimos maybe you could diverge more details.

As you know we have a cabin at the bottom of our garden. We discovered that it was leaking a couple of months back. Think pre-shows. I don't know what is wrong but our roofer hasn't got back to us yet but if he could he wouldn't be able to get to the cabin as I have managed to cultivate* a dahlia jungle.
Lovely isn't it a mass of colours?
Work became rapidly more stressful more than I think it ever has and I found myself working on my 'non-work' work days - working more than I was able to do at work.
Horrible. Well half term is nearly over and girls will be going back to school next week and I've got to go back to work to. Not looking forward to it.
(*Either that or after the shows - I let it do it's own thing.)
Anyone that reads the dahlia forum or knows a thing or to about dahlias will either be cutting them down and some people have begun/finished digging up the tubers.
Well I haven't a bit of a rebel me - even without everything going on I wouldn't have started yet.
Weston Buccaneer - stunning. It would be a crime against beauty to hack all that down. Dahlias around it not looking so glam but look at Fairy's Hillcrest Hannah:
A sea of yellow blooms.

Having spent the last 37 minutes typing the next instalment and for the whole post to disappear mid typing I am currently hacked off and am going to give up.
So hope that tomorrow will be better. I needed to talk. Better out than in and all that stuff.

I don't think I would cut those beauties down either, I'd far rather enjoy what's left of them, hope things get better for you soon

I wouldn't cut them down either they brighten up the dull days, I don't understand why people 'have' to do certain things in the garden at exactly the same time every year although I know if you're 'growing to show' you have to have some kind of timetable, they look lovely Moonlight. Re: the cold - tell the girls 'layering' is in fashion this year - lots of layers of t-shirts, cardigans & jumpers!

Re: the cold - tell the girls 'layering' is in fashion this year - lots of layers of t-shirts, cardigans & jumpers! I do have a sort of timetable but very ish but mine is like a bus timetable of a bus that is stuck in traffic 3 miles away.
grindle and SueA - glad you agree. I do care about them but I also have another reason for not hacking everything down just yet because I need more time. re. the cold the girls don't moan much (but I am sure that it will come sooner or later) but poor HH is really struggling. We all go to bed wrapped up with extra blanket on at night and it is warm clothes and a jumper when we get up. Me I'm ok but a lot of time I am having to be ultra chirpy for everyone etc.
Anyway (note the deliberate change of subject) moving on.
Going to risk retyping last night's post.

As soon as she saw that I had put Fairy's Hillcrest Hannah photo up, she instantly said "Have you done one of Amber Festival, Mummy?" (using a very grumpy voice).
"Mine is Dead." Here you can see right to left: Tel's Birkenshaw Wyn's Favourite - red and proud, Blyton Golden Girl - the yellow, Marston Lilac the purple behind and Pirate's Amber Festival which is a softer yellow and amber shade. You can't see what is behind Amber Festival but on the left of the picture you can see the red of Barbarry Pip and Barbarry Gala yellow at the back left. You can't see any of the Barbarry Surprise but it is still there. Just not the blooms.
Pirate's Amber Festival was in full bloom earlier that Fairy's Hillcrest Hannah and has had longer to produce seeds. Having said that Fairy has seeds on hers.
So although I know that she is disappointed, Pirate really can't complain but I can understand her being disappointed. Fairy was very disappointed at the beginning of the season when Pirate has a sea of golden orange yellow.
