.....The Sir Alf was so huge I couldn't carry it through the house and I didn't want my Dad to do it either because he has got a really painful shoulder at the moment. ...
Good heavens Moonlight... just how big ARE these tubers ? They can be enormous Roofy, one of my 'Garden Friends' dahlias (in a 10" pot) has grown so much this summer it's now tightly wedged into the pot and I will have to cut it out next spring It's hard to believe that when Tel sent it to me a couple of years ago it was a tiny 4" rooted cutting.

Well have now made the decision to find a box big enough for a family of 3 which I am determined to send on their travels on Monday. (Subject to the weather) Just need to find a box + I am waiting for the soil around the tuber to crumble off a bit more. Less soil = lighter parcel.

I'm intrigued...and sorry if I've missed it before.....but where are you sending this box (of dahlias I assume) to?

(Bit of an effort though, must confess!) (I've thought of some humorous replies but false myself to press backspace delete.)

Inspired by Roofy's drive to push on with his plans for world domination, thought I would finish off a couple of rows (sort of)
n.b. the one that I labelled 'Dad's Magic' isn't actually called that but I can get away with it (for now) until he classifies it something 2015 number.... (Just don't rat on me and tell him)

Hmmm... a mystery ? Was it the Reverend Plum in the Greenhouse with the Secateurs ? More like:
Soaking wet mad woman, wearing odd boots (ok, 1 ankle height floral wellie on the Right foot and 1 purple clog on her Left Loot) as she couldn't find a matching pair of wellies tall or short (with 2 children asking: "Mummy why are you wearing odd boots?") and a pair of blunt loppers or kitchen scissors! Even my children think know that I am mad.

Smiling for the camera 1 Sir Alf tuber, with a car parked behind for size comparision 3 smaller tubers in a kitchen washing up bowl (nb not used for washing dishes)
All 4 tubers still have a lot of compost / soil attached which is fine because it helps protect the 'fingers/lobes) but in this case the ones in the bowl will have as much soil brushed away as I can to make them lighter. The stalks of the Sir Alf will be trimmed down some but they have helped me when I was staggering through our house to hold the tuber.

EGADS ... Sir Alf looks like a set of bagpipes. The ones in the Kitchen bowl look very similar to the three I dug out last week ... I'll send photographs later today.

Are these variants that you have planted, or is this a list of what you intend to plant ? The DO look very colourful.

Would do a proper reply but am currently sitting on the floor of Pirate's bedroom, as I have 2 children who wont settle down and sleep. They will not be in the same room 2morrow. Not impressed.
