Many congratulations to Dad, Yourself, Pirate and Fairy for all your cups and medals; these represent years of hard work, and you deserve every one of them ! I think it is great that you put in your feedback to the show(s) as well !
Your county seems to be more organised/enthusiastic than Nottinghamshire when it comes to horticultural shows. I've not done a HUGE amount of research, but in my local area the only Horticultural show we seem to have is the Gedling Show, which includes one (albeit very large) marquee to house both the flower and vegetable competitions. They won't be publishing their programme (and event classes) untill mid-March, however.
There IS a Nottinghamshire Show in May, but that is mostly agricultural rather than horticultural. I'm not sure my landlord would approve of me growing Sheep ! (anyway, they refuse to stay in their pots). I suppose I could... dunno... grow some wheat or something ?
Judge: And how did you harvest your Wheat, Mr Roofgardener; did you use a Massey Ferguson or John Deere ? Roofgardener: Ummm... no y'r'honour... a pair of scissors from Wilkinsons

With your gift of the gab you'll be able to talk your way round anything and you'll make it sound like it is their idea in the first place.
At our County dahlia shows, we are allowed to enter 1 entry per class but at the local Horticultural Town Show we are allowed to make 2 entries. However, at our local Horticultural Town Show we can only exhibit one variety per vase (and pretty much all of the show – unless specifically stated as ‘mixed vase’.) At County we can use a combination (unless specifically stated). There is another show that I can exhibit next year (and if I can then I will) and that is in a Village near here (actually similar distance possibly nearer to our Town show itself.) Most of the dahlia classes are vases of 2 blooms and totally random (both entries and erm 'interesting' judging).
re. Size of show, size doesn't come in to it, fierce competition, fun (yes, 'fun' it can happen - sometimes - when it isn't Pistols at Dawn) and friendship come from a good show.
At our Town shows, these are held in a hall and have a range of domestic handicraft, floral arranging and the plants. Sorry to let you down, just no Sheep.
p.s. When I first read
I thought it said the Gelding Show. p.p.s. Thank you for your kind words re. family winnings , trophes - look forward to hearing about your Onion trophies.

I found a box but it is still a bit on the small size, so I am going to have to cut more off. Sorry.

There are 3 show Town Horticultural shows a year: Spring, Summer. Autumn as you know is reserved for dahlias and even though I have tried to find a chrysanthemum that I like - part of me is gags because they still look like ugly dahlias. I will keep a look out. There are Chrysanthemum classes but nobody enters - interestingly there is fierce competition in the Chrysanthemum classes at the Village show which is only about 2-3 miles away from the Town show.
Weird.
I would not enter anything larger than a small anyway but I really can't see anything that I like. Am happy to be convinced otherwise.

It was going so well until Pirate decided not to wait for Mummy and pulled her tuber up.
I can't see if there are any eyes still left amongst the pieces of tuber but it's not looking good put it that way.
Oh well

What a shame about pirates tuber. Will you acquire a new one for her of the same variety ? Tom mclelland made a good tuber for me . Two of my zoe fell apart when I lifted them but the best two good solid Tubers. Amazing how plants next to one another of the same variety vary so much in tuber formation.

Feel a bit on hold at the moment, I've quite a few tubers to go yet but I'm hold because I have a Doctors appointment this morning. Want to get that out of the way before I get filthy dirty.

Huston I had a bit of a problem in the tuber department. I had put Pirates 'tuber' pieces in a box for my Dad to have a good look at them. To see if he could spot any ideas. Came home from work on Wednesday and asked if my Dad has taken it home with him. Was told yes and (Fairy's) erm, no he hasn't because her one is here in the lounge (as you do). All is well in the world, my little tuber in a box was returned and Fairy's brought home with Grandad.
I had a rather productive day. Most of the tubers that I want to keep are up. My Dad took home a Kenora Valentine for a short stay at Dahlia Holiday Inn Greenhouse. The Sir Alf was so huge I couldn't carry it through the house and I didn't want my Dad to do it either because he has got a really painful shoulder at the moment.
That's a challenge for another day.
