Perhaps the recipient hasn't even opened the box yet ? He/She might still be admiring the labels ? Or dazzled by the twinkle of (purple) tinsel? I soooooooooooooo wanted to add some glitter to the Vermiculite. Very, very tempted!

Just waved off two cheerful children wearing their Christmas jumpers, part of their annual fund-raising for the school's nominated charity of the year War Child. Each year the pupils nominate and then the whole school vote for a charity to support. A very much needed charity at this time.

I was going to post about tubers - as I seem to do things totally different to everyone else and try to do what my Dad does as best I can bearing in mind that I have no heating in my greenhouse. Haven't had a chance to before but I found this - 2013 My 1st Tubers
I've just dug up my 1st ever tuber and I can honestly say I don't like the clicking sound as the smaller roots snap. See still very much a beginner, that was only 2 years ago.
I've got better at it (not necessarily the digging part but I am able to cope with the noise. When I put the fork in I don't do it as close as my Dad does. A little further away, try and see if it is able to move a bit. Then move the fork around and back in; and try to get the soil to move. I have managed to dig up more complete tubers using this method.
I've done it like my Dad does. He does not try and remove all the soil from the ones that he digs out of the ground. Seems like everyone here cleans them a lot but he doesn't because he believes that the soil helps them keep their original shape which helps support their original shape, rather than clean all the soil away and then put them on a surface leaning on a lobe (my term) and weakening it. Ultimately each to their own.
I am just trying to learn what to do. You are right Cherry I am very lucky.
So far I've got the Eastwood Moonlight which Dad dug up to show me how to do it, 1 Downham Royal tuber that I dug up infront of him and 2 that I did on my own without him there.
Today I am going to dig up my Weston Pirate my favourite; (excluding Eastwood Moonlight & Downham Royal) and Red Balloon. Dad is going to take both of them as well. He has only 1 Red Balloon plant and we would like to try and keep one tuber.
After Lunch I'm going to show the girls.
Red Balloon the girls were in charge of the photos so instead of a nice one of Weston Pirate, I've got lots of close ups of worms!
Diary of a bizarre erratic gardener:
Last night I went down to the greenhouse and covered my tubers with a (purple) towel, to keep them warm. I did seriously think about covering them up in the kingsize duvet that we used to pack around the tins of dahlias to the shows. I thought that was a bit OTT, 1 kingsize duvet with 4 tubers underneath. It wouldn't have fitted on the greenhouse bench top.
BOO!!!! Nope not trick or treating my tubers under my purple towel.

Speaking of Christmas cards - I've been working on Christmas card tonight but I am going to stop now it has got to 1.25am and I think that it is time to walk away. For the last few years I have been using my photographs to make up a Christmas photo card which includes photos from the year. The thing is, I keep thinking of more that I wish I could add.
So I am going to stop on the critical stuff but I might spend a couple of minutes on something a tad different in the photographic modelling department...

I know that all I have done has been put together a Christmas card but I'm feeling totally drained. Mega late nights (yes 'mega' for me! Pretty much the Moonlight Night Owl) and I have finally finished. Cards ordered but will be too late to arrive before Christmas but they are done and they are special to us. I need a very long sleep - maybe after that I can begin to get into the Christmas Spirit proper.
