Besides gardening, do any of you try your hands at anything else?
For about 10 years now I've been into paper craft. It started when I made our wedding invitations, favours, thank you cards, which developed into regular card making for birthday/sympathy/Christmas that kind of thing. Then I ended up doing my friends' wedding invitations, complete kit, save the date cards, invitations, gift list cards, rsvp's, order of service, place cards, table names, table plan, thank you cards etc.
I kind of feel now that I've met that challenge which his maybe part of the reason why I took to gardening. I am now selling most of my craft stuff to get some funds for gardening.
I also work 9-5 Monday to Friday  sadly, I'd much rather be at home pottering about but needs must and all that.

That's a lovely hobby. Well done ! I enjoy something creative  It's nice that you can make a bob or two from it as well ...
I like to do sketches and water colour paintings. I also have a pottery wheel and kiln (Which I haven't used for a few years, but am trying to get it up and running again this spring) I also do a lot of Genealogy and local history research - it's fascinating. I have traced part of my family back to the 1500s I have a nice collection of over 100 cacti too, which I don't suppose is really 'gardening' as such.
The real gardening has to fit in between all this so it's a good job I am not very fussed about it ... |

Hi KC, I do bits of knitting, love baking but am more into sewing at the minite, Just making my self a long hippy kind of a dress I love my sewing machine. |

I wouldn't give up all your crafting KC, you could still do some every so often & sell at craft fairs, a friend of mine used to make 3D decoupage cards & did that & never had to buy any Christmas or birthday cards either! I haven't had much time for any of my hobbies recently as we've moved house so I've been doing a lot of decorating etc. - quite enjoy that though- well when I've finished it anyway! Other than that I like drawing, painting, knitting, sewing by hand & crochet but I go through phases of all sorts of things!  |

In my spare time I, err, go to the allotments where I have 2 plots and a 20ft polytunnel. I have also been asked to set up a wildlife area and also a members social area. I also enjoy reading, crosswords, listening to music and walking.

I'm just working on my sister's wedding invites and order of services  apparently the fact that I made my own a few years ago has volunteered me for it. I may have volunteered to do other wedding stuff I don't know about yet too. Thankfully she didn't do 'save the date' cards as well - tbh I never got the point of those yet?! Hywel, I would LOVE to have a go with a proper pottery wheel and kiln. Do you need a lot of room to set one up? What clay do you work in? And is it very expensive (if that's not rude to ask?) My husband is a big collector of pottery (particularly Geoffrey Swindell, when he saves up!) and would probably like a go too, although he's perhaps not as good at making art as he is at appreciating it! I suppose it would make sense to do some pottery courses (I did them at college but not with a wheel) but as neither of us have good health, we don't seem to get around to it. |

I don't get much spare time, but I do like to do some knitting, in between a couple of days work, decorating, walking the dog and looking after my mum my escape is my garden and trying to build things, the last effort was a large 3 in 1 compost bin

I read a lot, do tapestry and attend an awful lot of meetings as I'm on the Parish Council. Just reading and answering the huge number of PC related emails that come most days takes up a lot of time. I go to church and have a lot to do with activities there.

Hywel, that's a lot of creative stuff you are involved in, local history can be very interesting, I researched my in laws family tree quite a few years ago now but I can't remember how far back I got. Rosie, I'm into baking too (thanks to my OH Christmas present... mixer) love the sound of your hippie dress, please post pics when finished Sue, You're right about not giving up all my crafting stuff, I could never part with it all but I've been quite ruthless in what I'm keeping and selling, I've a big box full ready to sell if I could just get a taker lol, I found out a friend's young daughter is into making cards so might give her some just to get her started. I also love decorating and altering the house with reclaimed materials, we're still working through that after knocking our old fireplace out, taking a wall down, putting in a huge multi fuel stove with high fireplace enclosed in stunning Belfast brick, taking the wall down opened up the living, dining and kitchen areas perfectly in our quite small house we also put up a 100 year old beam when we took the wall down and put up distressed scaffolding planks as bookshelves and cut the Belfast bricks in half and laid them length ways instead of wooden skirting board love love love it! We've decorated it all, and our son's bedroom and now half way through our bedroom, just need to decide on flooring and OH to make the furniture again our of scaffolding boards Dai... you're hobbies sound great, I love the thoughts of your 20ft PT, we are a very musical family. OH plays in our church praise team, and our son is doing a music course at further education level at the mo. As for me, I love singing but don't sing lol nor do I play but we all love music. Bess... I can sympathise lol, I know the feeling about Save The Date cards, stupid idea if you ask me if they go out fairly close to the invites which happened with the ones I did but each to their own I guess. The ones I did had 3 tiny pearls on EVERYTHING and it wasn't a small wedding, I was scundered by the end of it. Hope to see pics when its done? Grindle... I am intrigued by your 3 in 1 compost bin. Any photos? I'm just starting to compost. Well truthfully I haven't actually started yet. I have got 2 compost bins, both 330L, with no base and I'm having to put them on concrete which I'm not overly keen on so debating building a very low raised bed to set them on so at least they will be sitting on soil to absorb the moisture. Any tips? Actually I might start a new thread for that. Geranium... had to laugh at your 'awful lot of meetings' I love to read too, I'd be lost without my kindle, especially when I'm sitting in the middle of everything that I've growing in the back yard Church activities can be great fun can't they? We go to as much as we can. As previously said to Dai, my OH plays in our praise team most Sundays and rehearses most Thursday nights. Our son plays in it too on occasion, generally only a couple of times a year though at the minute. Very interesting hearing what else everyone does |

I have lots of hobbies but the main one I find , seems to be "collecting things" for all these hobbies I don`t seem to get around to actually doing much. I sew, do knitting ( mostly toys and baby items for friends now and then ) embroidery , calligraphy, baking , as well as diy around the garden . So I have a hugh colletion of .........Kenwood mixers 4 to be exact all working and most of the attachments . loads of fabric and wool, rolls and rolls of ribbon , lots of lace and elastic and quite a collection of embroidery thread some real silk from the 50`s ( I really must do some sometime ) about 14 fountain pens and countless bottles of coloured inks. Books , hundreds if not thousands about all these crafts . bookbinding , though I havn`t actually made a book yet , got all the stuff though  . and a few months ago i became interested in water colour painting , have I done any yet .... erm no....  . but I have several books on the subject , paper paints and a really good selection of brushes . |

lol sounds like a good hobby just curious, do you use all 4 Kenwoods at the same time? Do you have to hug any of them while they are mixing lol like I had to do before I got my Belling at Christmas? The motor stank to high Heaven too. What kind of book binding do you do? I've a Bind It All but that's on my list to sell as I found I didn't need to make as many books as I thought I might lol. You've all the books to keep you right |

KC my hobbies now are gardening reading sewing water colour painting I like cooking when I have time ! but what I did for 5 years was to make Porcelain Dolls from start to finish I also taught it we had a huge room which was split into two one side was made into a shop the other I used to teach, I gave up after 5 years as that sort of craft was coming to an end although Dolls houses are still going strong. I'm now getting ready for our local shows to start as I'm in charge for the plant stalls. |

You've all the books to keep you right I started with my mums old 701a it smells a bit when being used I think it need new capasitors . bought a lovely cream and brown 901e from ebay for £40 then bought lots of used attachments for it , blender , grater, slicer , pea and bean slicer, citris juicer, colander, mini mill, cream maker, can opener. some were as cheap as 99p and recently I found a lovely old a wheat mill, that was expensive though at £35  . I bought another cream and brown one for my friend which needs a good clean ( I love taking it apart ) and regreasing . Then I saw a white 901p going for a song on ebay £24 so I bought that too, i`ll probably give that one to someone . I plan to make lots of bread and mill my own oats for oat cakes when i have time  I have made a few buns and a cake . I`m in the process of making myself a personal prayer book, thats how I got interested in bookbinding . I have loads of prayer books with lots of lovely prayers and I thought it would be a good idea to put my favourites all together in a book. I have a small note book where I have hand written them , adding too all the time . I have taught myself to use the pageplus DTP where I intend printing off signatures which I will then sew together , and hopefully bind the cover with leather. |

Blimey Lesley porcelain dolls, goodness that must have been time consuming. My sister used to buy me those for birthdays and Christmas when I was young, the thoughts of them still haunt me, don't get me wrong, daytime they were very pretty but my goodness you'd swear they come to life when the lights go out lol all these eyes looking at you lol. Funny I was at a friends wake a few months ago and his wee sister who I used to hang about with as a child mentioned them, we'd a bit of a giggle at it. Funny you mention it now again lol. Oh you have to keep us all posted on how your local shows go. That sounds exciting |

LB... Jeapers that's a lot of mixing stuff lol my house wouldn't be big enough to house it, it's barely big enough to house us lol ok so that's a little bit of an exaggeration Prayer book, now that's something I've been meaning to get/make. Although I wouldn't be thinking of adding prayers to it like you've been thinking of, while that is still a good idea. I was thinking more along the lines of just binding nice pages with nice verses on some of the pages, perhaps the odd prayer like you mentioned, but with a lot of journal pages to add to my ever growing list of prayer requests, via church and friends etc, never mind what you hear on the news using a leather cover sounds amazing. I'd be thinking of just paper decorating the covers of mine before binding, adding a few fibres to the wire binding and embellish the cover once made. |
