Today I have been to view a new allotment site about 4 miles from my home. It is private land and the field has been ploughed back in October so once it dries out a little more should be ideal to get working on it. There will be just 4 or possibly 5 plots in total with water, parking, toilets handy and best of all a stable on the premises so as much manure as you could ever need . It has a lake at the end for people who like fishing. (That lets me out) and is also quite remote so very secure and has very dark skies so I can indulge my other hobby of astronomy too. Size is 65' x 30' give or take a few inches so I can get on with working out what to grow. I think to begin with I will have to rely on one of my boys to help out a bit until I am more fit than at present but it will help me exercise too. The chap who owns the land is very keen and has quite a few plans but that is for the future. I should be able to have a go at my old sweetpea seed business too as my previous venture was curtailed by my business partner getting herself pregnant. (Not by me I hasten to add ;D ) Will take some pics as I go along.

I have been sorting out my new setup but am still trying to get one particular part. When I do get up and running I will see what I can do.

That is wonderful news SP. You will really enjoy that. It is quite big, but after the initial setting up, you will be fitter and should manage.

It looks good SP, looking forward to seeing photos as you go along, and later on some lovely sweetpeas I only intend to grow sweetpeas bush fashion to begin with and maybe next year get back in to showing. At least this way I will be able to build up a supply of seeds. ps I wonder how many of you know that if you store your sweetpea seeds in the freezer they will still be viable for 30 years or more. This has in fact been tried by experiment. Not by me though, I doubt I've got 30 years left

Great news sweetpea, and a good time of the year to start an allotment. i can see those sweetpea trophy pics now, i have a feeling you may be tempted to grow a few dahlias, on there as well.

You could well be right Tel. Will have to order a few plants though as greenhouse not sorted out yet so I'm really looking to the future here. I doubt I will even consider exhibition work for SPs yet but hopefully in 2012. I will probably attempt one trench just to illustrate in the sweetpea thread. (if I'm fit enough) really frustrating this stroke business. Still I suppose it could have been worse.
