A week on from starting the thread, and my seedlings are mostly showing their first true pair or single leaf. No losses after potting up, though three appeared encased in seed case and I managed to peal two of them away and the seedlings survived. I got extra Shirley in the T&M packet, but lost one of the ten Sweet Aperatif, before germination.
Now have 47 comprising 12 Shirley, 11 Stupice, 15 Panavoy and 9 Sweet Aperatif
Happy so far

I agree with you, Dai. Two yrs ago, I tried some new varieties from T&M, and had to contact their technical team to complain at how awful they were. One type dropped toms after fertilization and the other was all woolly and not as it should have been.
So, back to Shirley for last year and this. I am hopeful that Sweet Aperatif will be an outstanding cherry tom to have with my salads.

I said I would be growing 6 tomatoes. However, that figure has extended to 10. I bought 3 grafted duo toms last year, but they were expensive and one type was very poor. These take up the same amount of space as 6 on a single stem.

I'm only planting 6 in the g'house and maybe one or two outdoors. Another tomato with a pleasant flavour is the stripey one Tigrella. Not grown it for many years though.

Yes sweetpea tigerella tomato is a very good one and I have Rosie's seeds of this, but I think I am too late to grow it from seed now. I will be going to the garden centre shortly to shortcut the tomatoes.

I'm trying a few new ones this year, apart from Alicante which I have grown often. Sweet Aperetif and Black Opal A few allotment folk have been planting their toms in their tunnels quite early for the last few years, so thismorning I planted out 2 Black Opal in the warmest part of the border.........see what happens.....
