It is all coming together nicely floydie, the pots will give you some colour this summer. You have made a huge difference since you posted the first photos, I hope you are feeling pleased with yourself.

You've done so well with your garden Floydie in a short time. Its looking really good now and your pots add some nice colour while your other plants get established. Love your little doggies ;D

Your soil does look like it dries out quickly. Dig as much organic material in as you can, it will help.
Is the netting to keep the dogs/children or both off?

It dose on the top but if you scratch the surface its moist under. The main problem is all the garden is in pretty much full sun, and with little rain its not helping. The netting is to keep the dogs off until the plants are bigger and Elliot also likes to run across the bank and dig with his trowel .

you'll be amazed how quickly it will all fill in, then you'll wanting more space to plant ;D I was wondering if ive planted too closely & I'm not 100% things are in the right places yet, i still have the shady corner to plant up. Ive lots of Rudbeckia to go in yet when they are bigger so i may well be squeezing them in . I think I'm going to mulch around all the plants with a bag or 2 of compost before they grow too much in hope it will improve the soil slightly.

Ten years down the line and I'm still digging plants up and moving them. It will all come together and you'll learn loads as you go along.

I agree with WLF, and the beauty of perennials is you can always move and split them if they get too crowded

Yes....and you could perhaps give Eliot his own "little patch" to dig in, then he won't accidentally dig up your baby plants

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I have just read the thread from start to finish It is amazing the difference you have made to your garden Floydie, it's fantastic! One tip for your Lewisia, if you plant it slightly on it's side it will have a better chance of winter survival, if they get lots of water in the crown it will rot, but the water will easily run out if planted slightly tipped to one side. Mine survived last winter like this ;D

Thanks its getting better now things are flowering and growing . Elliot has lots of space to dig in as some areas are still bare soil i think he just likes the sandy soil on the right hand side of the bank . Ive had the Lewisia for 3 years i think it will need potting on at some point so i'll try to tilt it .
