My sister in law found the hedgehog in her garden and was afraid the dog would eat it as there were few hiding places. I was happy to have him ( Sonic is his name ). we left the open box beside the shed and a dish of nuts, mealworms and a little dog food under it and we haven't seen him since .I`d love one of those cameras that Sue a has just otmake sure he is ok. The food keeps disappearing bit by bit so I hope it`s him .

I haven't seen one in any of my gardens, for over 20yrs.
We had lots of them in our childhood garden, as we were next to an old orchard plot and they took refuge by the chicken sheds.
Lucky you, ladybird

My back garden is such a mess that there are lots of hiding places for him. I have informed my neighbour just in case he goes for a wander, as they do . He hasn`t touched his food today hope he is all right. I wonder if he will be lonely without a mate .

He could be a few months old and not found a mate yet. He just needs to be a certain weight so he can hibernate safely for the whole winter. Will you be able to make him a winter home?

He is quite big and fat dianthus. just concerned now that I might have separated him from his mate . I'll ask my sister in law to keep an eye out for others .

Lovely news ladybird, hope it stays in your garden. I love watching ours, we had 3 visit together a few days ago Oh Lovely , do you have any tips to encourage them to stay? ladybird I put out food (Spike semi-moist hedgehog food, a few mealworms and sultanas) and clean water every evening. I don't use any slug pellets in the garden, I've got a log pile and compost heap at the end of the garden and there are gaps under the fences around my garden so the hedgehogs can travel to other gardens without having to cross the road. I've also got a hedgehog house my grandson made for me but so far I don't think its been used, they probably prefer the log pile and the compost heap! Last year I only saw 2 hedgehogs and prior to that never saw any, so I think the food and good hiding places probably encourages them to stay around here but they could wander off at any time. I think I've been lucky that they've stayed this long . I hope your hedgehog stays around for you

Thanks peony, I didn't know there was proper hedgehog food , thats handy. I forgot all about the water and I have a small pond which I have just read can be a danger to them, though I have a firm wire mesh sitting on top at the moment to protect the goldfish (only one left from 3 ) I have good space under one of the sheds and piles of clay pots and wood all over the place , so he has loads of places to go as I am am anything but tidy

just read this, now I am worried You didn't 'take it from the wild' you relocated it away from your sister's dog's garden.
