Does anyone have any idea what this little chap might be ? (click to enlarge). It is very close to one of my capsicum plants that has suffered severe leaf-damage. (eaten away, in the style of a caterpillar). Could this be responsible, or is it just an innocent bystander ? (amazing camoutflage.. it REALLY looks like a leaf from any distance).

Cool - thanks for that.
Now....
Does it eat Capsicum leaves ? Or Brussel Sprouts ?
One thought... on Google, all of the "Cabbage White" butterflies are.. well.. white ? This one is green ?

Trust you to be different, Roofy
They love laying their eggs on Brassica leaves, but one summer, they also decimated the nasturtiums that I'd grown in my hanging baskets. I haven't grown them since, as I do see a lot of Small Whites flitting about.

My nasturtiums were eaten by caterpillars. Would these be the caterpillars of the cabbage white?

Are they yellow and black stripes? if so, they will be the caterpillars of the large or small white.....

Yes Lou78W. They are the ones. I just let them go and thought I would not grow nasturtiums next year.

roofgardener , that looks like a small white butterfly, the reason it doesn't look 'white' on your pic. is it's got it's wings folded up & the undersides are a pale yellowy/green colour, when it flew off you would be able to see that the the other side of it's wings are white with a small black dot. The butterfly wouldn't eat any of your plants but it's caterpillars would certainly eat your brussel sprouts, the small white caterpillars are quite small & fairly bright green so that they're camouflaged against the leaves, I've found several of the little devils hiding right in the centre of the tiny cabbage seedlings I got for £1 because they had been nibbled by more visible large white butterfly caterpillars which are larger, hairy & black/yellowish striped. I'm not sure if their caterpillars would eat your pepper leaves as they usually stick to the brassica family but I suppose they could. edit - for some reason I typed small white 'caterpillar' in the first line instead of butterfly?!?

Yes Lou78W. They are the ones. I just let them go and thought I would not grow nasturtiums next year. Same here. Some things are just too much of a fight, and you have to work with nature.

Bah..... to heck with Nature. My Roof-based technology will overcome these butterflies. Oookay... here's plan A. It's a bit manpower-intensive, but they can always be doing weeding when not searching for butterflies !
