I just got a call from Graham, the bank called him and said someone in the UK has tried to use our credit card to buy £788.96p's worth of AA car insurance which the bank had declined. Apparently there was a wee transaction for 68p which must have been the swines trying out the card and then decided to go for the biggie Beware with your credit/debit cards folks, there are some real nasty people out there

Rosie was it cloned from a hole in the wall or was it an online transaction? Now I know this really can happen. Thankyou very much for the warning but I am sorry you have had the worry.

it's a horrible thing to do, we had the same a couple of years ago, they put £1 through on a credit card, fortunately they were quick enough to pick it up and warn us, that's what they do though, put a small amount through and if that's ok'd they try for the biggie. Good job your bank was with it and had it stopped.

We also had the same thing happen to us a few years ago, on my husbands business card which never leaves the house. So how did they do that ?? the bank were very good about it , with in hours the money was back in our account.

I had a call here from my credit card company in January - my card had been used in Manchester at 8 that morning! They picked that up very quickly - it was a pain having to chop up the card and get another one re-issued, but good that they were so on the ball!

I've also been the victim of credit card fraud, it was used over a few day, about 4 times and all over the country too so they must have been internet shopping with it. Luckily the largest transaction was only for a few hundred pounds but the sky was their limit if they'd known My bank rings me now if there are a few transactions in a short period of time - it's a bit of a nuisance sometimes but it's worth it.

I was ordering something online once and my credit card was refused so I tried again and still it was refused I went downstairs with the intention of phoning my bank and just as I got down stairs the phone rang - it was the security dept. of my bank telling me something funny was going on with my card and they were going to cancel it and send me a new one. It is a good job that banks are on the ball isn't it

It has been known to be cloned when buying by card at petrol stations too Yes I heard about a mirror or camera in the ceiling above the card thingy. It must be very distressing for Rosie as it's personal, like a burglar in your home. I always check my 'paper' statements but I really should read it on line more often. We here a lot about banks but they do seem to have their work cut out with fraud.

I think it's has been done through paypal, that's the only thing i had used it for in the past week or so. I will be contacting paypal about it too.
Graham checks the bank and cards online every day without fail.
