The mushroom compost came from a independent chap near Southport I got mine bagged up in approx 40 lt per bag.
I always propagate in the region of 2000+ cuttings each season I start propagation putting the tubers down in January the first batch of cuttings taken the first week in Marchwith the main batches taken in April. Early cutting are topped or pot tubered , some are just thrown away. Room tend to be at a premium. There are approx 900 in the propagator now and I have taken most of the tubers off the bench now. Most of these will be dumped. They would be good for a park or someone with large borders to plant. its always a shame to throw them away as they could be split and planted.

I don't like to chuck away the benched tubers either Ian. I give mine away to the other plot holders, first come first served! All they have to do is plant them and they'll get a great display. This time I reclaimed some Dahlias I'd stopped growing myself. 'Lakeland Autumn' did great on my neighbours plot so I'm trying it again. Meant to ask you, you said you're using calcified seaweed and Q4, have you found this effective? I'm undecided between Growmore, chicken pellets or seagold as a base dressing. My soil is slightly acid and very free draining.

Hi David, I am using the casified seaweed to help raise the ph also the mushroom will help. The reason I am using the Q4 is because I gave it normally I would have used fish blood and bone and some nitro chalk p. Into chalk is a fast acting Nitrogen then the FBB kicks in slower release. I would use all three mix it into the ratios you want then apply. Usually at the start of a season you will be short of nitrogen that is why I usually apply the nitro chalk to give the plants available nitrogen. This season Iam only going to use the Q4 I don't want to over do the nitrogen.

I received a batch of cutting from Eurodahlia at the weekend and was very disappointed, plants very pale, soft and Leggy, had to stop down to 2 pair of leaves on most plants, putting the nipped out tops to cuttings

Alan, I am sure if you give Sean a ring he will rectify the problem or as you have done top them and root the tops then you have double. Give them a ring Alan all the best Ian
