Very very sad news Ian . Moonlight you will be very very much missed On a happier note I am proud to say as of today this is mine. 22m x 9m allotment plot about a 20min walk from home. Plot has water . Rent is 61quid a year inclusive of the water. A lot of work to be done May not get it all done this season and I may forgo showing this season in order to get the plot fully operational plus have to buy shed , hoses etc... I will put up covers next year.

Glad to see you finally got your plot! Looks well worth the wait Raymond. As Sue commented you've got some work on your hands, but looks to be in a nice location. I'd be tempted to weedkill that grass whilst it's in active growth, after its gone brown it would make clearing out the weed a lot easier. Looking forward to seeing your Dahlias growing there next year!

the 2nd picture was taken a month ago, the diggings all finished now and beds all marked out.
My plan of attack was glypho 3 times, then scorched earth policy with industrial flame thrower to frazzle all weed seeds, then methodically dig to try to get all bind weed roots and couch grass wicks.
Up till now, there is very little is showing through, just the odd thistle, then i just zap them

Well done Alan, lot of hard graft to turn that jungle around. Proves that no matter how overgrown a plot is, you can always do something with it.

Going to plant my biggest plants out next week (half term so off all week) going to try using ground control for first time. I won't have irrigation this season so any advice re watering? Hole size? Or how not to kill my plants would be gratefully received.

I got my first 30 dahlias in yesterday, Avoca Amanda and Kenora Valentine, They were late flowering of me last year so thought I would plant them earlier to see if I could gee them up a bit. Glad I protected them with milk bottles as its been cold and rainy here today, Hoping to get the rest in this weekend

Haven't got mine out yet, but been busy getting up the posts for my covers. Just have to sort out the cross members permanently, but the posts are all cemented in. It's a small area, 6.5m X 11m, but it's a start. Certainly had fun putting them up with all the wind and rain we've had this bank holiday weekend. Enjoying a nice cold beer now.......cheers all

johndoe After erecting something the size of the dahlia house which took skill, surely that wee shed is fixable!
