johndoe After erecting something the size of the dahlia house which took skill, surely that wee shed is fixable! I'd knock it down in a heartbeat if it was mine. Unfortunately it's not mine daisy. My neighbour, Richard, says it adds character to the allotments . Last year the wasps took up residence which was a real pain in the bum. I keep hoping after each windy day, that I'll go there to find it has fallen down, but no luck so far

Yes Steve doing some shows this year, the plot is full now but they have taken a real battering with the wind and cold that we have had in the east of the country, the eastwood Moonlights and kiwi's have suffered the worst as they were a bit leggy. Anyway the forecast is better for weekend and next week so they should recover ok.
Had my shed broken into earlier this morning and the rabbits escaped, I managed to round them up ok, so then I went round the plot and found hasps prised off other sheds. As i rounded the corner I saw smoke coming from inside Bob's shed but within minutes it was a fireball, I rang 999 and it took 2 appliances to put it out before it spread to other sheds. I arrived at the plot at 9.00am so the fire must have started about half an hour earlier also the rabbits had not got very far. Just wished I'd have caught them....

That's bad news Alan good job you went early to the plots , glad your rabbits are safe , hope they catch them we had it on our site . Your dahlias should recover from wind damage and your great idea with them milk cartons will have saved them from the cold , so you are showing up in the north east some good dahlia growers up there good luck .

Alan don't worry too much about the dahlias they will recover. Four years ago I have hail twice in one week and completely stripped my dahlias later that year I won the Terry Clarke individual championship. May be next time you have to plant leggy plants take the two bottom leaves off plant them a little deeper and cut them back a bit you can always manipulate them later as they get more established. The should be fine with a good root system, I also think you will produce good blooms on that plot if the ground has had a good rest (judging from the size of the weeds it looks in good heart) I leave my shed open for that very reason 'Richard heads' breaking in. Hope your rabbits aren't traumatised. North East growers are good growers some cracking competition up there. All my very best for the season ahead.
Ps how is the woman you found in the weeds?? Ian

Wish I had got the plot two or three months ago. Far to many varieties for sure but need to see what grows in the ground and plan for next year as two thirds of plot will be covered and I won't grow in the garden next year to enclosed and area draws everything up.

Is it ever going to stop raining . Finally got the support netting up, and all double and early stoppers, stopped. Spent the last three days dodging showers, some of them of biblical proportions!!!
A few have budded up, so they have been removed, looking forward to my first show at the Midlands on the 27th of August, hopefully get some sun along the way....
Best of luck to everybody showing this year, hopefully be one to remember for all.

I'll have you know, those stripped round posts cost £1.69 each, from sunny Wales. Charlie's of Welshpool to be precise . A great weekend in Shropshire, and a quick nip across the border to get the timber, lovely.......
Now you know why I wanted to take Jill away for the weekend, not just as a treat for helping me plant out .
How's your plants coming along Master?
