Stencils and stamps ladybird ? Could you show us any examples ? You've set me pondering. Can`t find my camera roofy but if you look over in the tips tricks diy section in " my latest project" I used stencils of a flower pot , and a frog plus stamps of a ladybird and seed packets then coloured them in with markers . I have a load of new stamps of flowers , pots and a cracker one of a man holding a rake . Of course you could always just add a picture before printing , I use pageplus a DTP for that .

Thanks for that ladybird. I use a table/grid in Microsoft Word to make my labels, and.. yes... I could incorporate artwork and/or pictures into that. I may give it a try ! Incidently, I can't take credit for the basic idea; I got it from daitheplant in one of his posts. It might have been the "Greenhouse Gallery" thread ?? Or perhaps his "allotment" one ? His labels where all a cheerful yellow colour. I guess I could always print onto coloured paper ?

Roofus, checking seedlings in the polytunnel this morning, I noticed the same problem with mildew on a seed tray in one of the mini greenhouses. I immediately removed all the propogator lids and opened up the greenhouse for better air circulation. So you have done right.

Roofy, where are you?
You are very quiet! Have you been tied up by the owls and hidden in a spud bin?

Not been doing much gardening, to be honest dianthus. However, I've partially made up for it today (been a VERY busy bee), and I have Big Plans for tomorrow. I'll be taking photographs, and perhaps posting them on Monday. daitheplant, since I've removed all the lids, things seem to have improved ! They're not GROWING any better than before - if at all - but at least the moss seems to have died back a bit. One anomaly, which I may photograph, is a large seed-tray that DIDN'T have lids on it, and was placed high-up on a shelf. It is as mossy as a Moss Monster hiding in a PARTICULARLY mossy part of Mossintgon Moor, in County Mosshire. I suspect it was 'catching' a lot of the water/condensation leaking down from the roof, and - because it was CLOSE to the roof - may also have been colder than the rest of the Polyfridge. Does moss/mould like damp, cold conditions ?

Yep!
I get lots of moss here..... even pukka sphagnum moss growing in a former azalea tub with a self-sown fern in it.

This is MOST disorganised, dianthus. Can't plants follow simple instructions ? It says "comes up Onions" on the packet, not "caution, may include moss". As for this self-sowing; it seems MOST undisciplined and disorderly. Mind you, having your own source of sphagnum must be a bonus ?

I know where to find sphagnum in the wild, but it would be irresponsible of me to pull it up and distribute to all my garden friends..... I don't even use it these days. It is beautiful to look at, and it's amazing how much taller it grows than lawn and brick wall moss species do. It really does behave like a natural sponge
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but whenever I've had greening of my seed tray compost, the seeds have never grown. I hope you haven't lost too many packets worth?

Fortunately the seeds had - for the most part - already germinated dianthus. Mind you.... one big tray of Toughball F1 Onions has only germinated sparsly, so perhaps the "greening" DID supress some of them ? I've removed all of my Lids and put them in a storage bin; I think I may avoid using them next year ? Once more, it occurs to me that I am planting stuff up to two months earlier than in previous years, and so the soil is exposed to a colder and damper environment as a result. Having said that, I've had SOME greening even on trays standing on the heater wires... so I dunno. Hey, if it was easy, EVERYBODY would be doing it
