More Spudlinks !
I harvested SpudBins #3 and #4 yesterday. Another bumper crop by RoofGarden standards. (or, in allotment terms... a pocketful ! ). (click for bigger spudlinks). I reckon that - between all four bins - I've got around 12lb of spudlinks this year. That's easily double my previous attempts ! Roofgardener is VERY happy And one bin remains... bin#5... "The Beast". I put a large (and manky) baking potato in there 6 months ago, applied ample feed and water, and .. for good measure ... wired a lightening conductor up to it. Who knows what dread creature lies in those abysmal depths, slowly drawing its catastrophic plans to completion ? "We Belong Baked"
Or half baked, as the case may be.

Not sure SueA. The folliage is still luxuriant and green, and spreading. As soon as it starts to turn yellow and wilt, that is when I will harvest it

August Update - Carrots...
I got a bit impatient, and decided to debottle all of my carrots. The results where... disappointing. Sort of. They where very small ! However, what really suprised me is that most of them are.. well... mutated ? The lower part seems to have split into lots of little legs ! The owls where MOST amused by this ! Any thoughts ?

Were they transplanted ? If so, you may have inadvertently damaged the tap root, so the carrot threw out spare roots. Just break them apart, and scrape them. They are still edible. Don't let them get floppy, or they will be much more difficult to scrape!!

They should still taste fine Roofy, it could be that maybe when you watered them the water didn't soak right through to the bottom of the bottles & the lower half of the compost got dry & hard & caused the carrots to form split roots?

..The Beginning of the Story
The Fat Woodpidgeon landed in a fluster of feathers onto the Pointless Chimney, and vaguely looked down at the Roofgarden.
Ever the optimist, it had a brief peck at the Crumbling Brickwork, on the offchance that it had become edible since its last visit. Disappointed with the taste and texture (needs garlic), it glanced down at the roofgarden, on the offchance that some of THAT may have become edible.. but it all looked its usual unappetising self.
Except... something WAS different? Where where the two annoying owls? Also, where was the Roofgardener?
The Polytunnel was empty, and the Owls Nests unslept in.
The Fat Woodpidgeon pondered on this for a minute, and then flapped off to see if No. 127 had put any birdseed out.
Silence fell on the Roofgarden, the somnulance broken only by the noise of a chilli slowly ripening in the polytunnel.
As the sun set, the solar lights gradually winked on, one by one. But no light gleamed from the RoofKitchen window, nor from the Owls reading perch!
Where WAS everybody?
