He he.... well, your family know you very well, and will get a giggle from it.
Don't take it to work, though, unless your boss has a good sense of humour

A View from the Roof
It's been a busy weekend ! Lots of faffing around with gadgets and unnecessary technology (just to keep daitheplant happy, 'cos I know he LOVES that sort of stuff). I didn't get round to actually PLANTING anything per se , but I DID pot-on some onions (see Onion diary ), and I got things READY for me to effortless plant seeds after work during the week. Well, lets dive in. PAY ATTENTION... I may be asking questions afterwards ! As ever, the pictures are posted onto the RoofNet, so you can click on them for a larger version. | The main event for this weekend was the Auxiliary Greenhouse. I partially-insulated the inside with some bubble-wrap; its not finished, 'cos I ran out. I also "wombled" a piece of wood from the back yard to act as a full-width shelf.
And why did I do this ? Well, I've been worried about my Toughball onions, which just DON'T seem to be growing in my little growhouse unit. (a.k.a the "Flower Shower"). I wondered wether they wheren't getting enough light. (it is very much in the shade during winter, and gets virtually zero direct sunlight).
| | Sooo... having fitted the bubblewrap (only on one side thus far) and the shelf, I ran electrical power from the Polytunnel (complete with timers), transfered the Growlight over, and fitted a Soil-Warming-Cable around and along the shelving, so that EVERYTHING would get a LITTLE bit of heat. (and light). | | .. and I transferred all the Growhouse onions over, plus a bunch of Ailsa Craigs that I had just potted on (see Onion Diary).
Heavens... it's STARTING to look like something daitheplant might do. (except his wouldn't lean to one side, and HIS insulation would cover the entire greenhouse, and fit properly and not sag down like mine does, and..... (sulks).)
| | Well, we now have a whole bunch of seed trays on the right of the Polytunnel happily basking in the warmth of the heater wire, and seemingly growing well. (These are mostly Bedfordshire Champions). There's also some Basil and Parsley in there, and two half-trays of geraniums). And - of course - right at the back we have the Kelsae's in their ClottlesTM
| | And on the LEFT side; seed trays and small 2" pots ready for planting into over the course of the week. (after work). In addition to Vision F1 onions, I'm also supposed to be planting a whole HEAP of various polinator-attracting plants, and some herbs. (I can't remember which ones, but they're all on my Calendar..and in my journal...so I'll post an update on that later in the week.)
| | And finally... it would be terribly remiss of me NOT to mention the Owls. They where a tower of strength, and both 'dug in' to help with the potting !
Way to go, Owls !!

Looking good roofgardener, I wish I was as far on as you are this season, not long now hopefully, just waiting on a little better weather, surely we can't be that far off now

I am impressed Roofus. Keep an eye on the condensation inside the propagator lids though. By the by, I have found a way of turning a litre pop bottle into a FREE 55 watt light bulb.
Oh I am very interested in hearing how you do that daitheplant

What an AMAZING concept ! Thanks for posting that, daitheplant. Meanwhile, I have a minor chrisis. I can't find either my tomato seeds, nor my Leek seeds. The calander states quite clearly that I have to plant them last week; I'm already late. I'm not going to be able to sleep tonight. How could I lose them ? I emptied out the tin labeled "Vegetables", and checked quite carefully. I'm not going to be able to sleep tonight now. I'll probably have nightmares of a huge calander with BIG TEETH chasing me down an endlessly long corridor, with thousands of people pointing at me at chanting "The tomatoes... the tomatoes.... ". Grrrr...

Roofus. First job, burn the calendar. You sow/plant things when the WEATHER says so. Stop flapping and start gardening.

Roofus. First job, burn the calendar. You sow/plant things when the WEATHER says so. Stop flapping and start gardening. That is a good idea, but Roofy has yet to learn when it's the right weather conditions for everything.
In thirty yrs, you might have it sussed, but there are always seasons when the unexpected, happens.

Roofus. First job, burn the calendar. You sow/plant things when the WEATHER says so. Stop flapping and start gardening. pffft... what does the WEATHER know ? Been to agricultural college, has it ? Got a degree in Botany from Cumulonimbus University, has it ? I regard the weather as being a total amateur. After all, it can't even follow simple instructions from the Met Office ! Anyway, what is the weather in a Polytunnel ? A mild day, with temperatures around 3-4 degrees higher than outside. Calm, with no wind. Overcast and slightly green, with rain in central areas (where the insulation sheetsdon't quite overlap, and the condensation pools) Also, I'll have you know that I have consulted The Master in this regard. Not Hessayen (although he agrees), but one daitheplant ! Potatoes, cabbage, cauli, sprouts, kohl rabi, red onions, white onion, banana shallots, peppers, 2 varieties of tomatoes , broad beans, runner beans and peas. Note the date stamp. I'm already 2 weeks late !!! flaps arms around and runs in circles .
