A lot of veg seeds are grown in 3/4 weeks cycles, such as peas, lettuce etc, so you have some to pick throughout the summer months, so no panic on missing the earliest opportunity to sow them.
I never started runner beans before April, as they can't get transplanted out until the end of May here, or the frost / wind will ruin them.
Don't panic Roofy

dianthus hope you don't mind me answering your question, the plant could be the lovely... Cobaea scandens :-)) I don't mind at all, daisy . You are so right. I knew it was spelt something like cobra, but was too lazy to get the flower book out.
Welcome to the site, btw. I hope you enjoy the banter, and Roofy's blogs are a great place to stop awhile and have a giggle.
Update after visiting your profile page, daisy. Oops, you've been here a lot longer than me.... three years infact, so not a newbie at all

Dianthus, I first joined the old site in 2007, then it changed to this one. I haven't posted for ages, so I can't claim to be a full time member. :-))
Roofgardener, I have just read this blog from start to finish - it's brilliant - hope to see more please! "Well done" :-))

Well, it's PRONOUNCED as "cobra", but strictly speaking it's spelt "COBR", and it stands for "Cabinet Office Briefing Room". It's our emergency crisis management centre. It's a bit like the underground "situation room" in the US White House. Except... where that has computer monitors and giant flatscreen TV screens and videoconference equipment and satalite links and stuff, the COBR just has a picture of Humpthy the Cat on the wall, and a vase of flowers on the windowsill. White House situation room: COBR

Roofgardener do you have to share this space with anyone else? Hiya daisy, and thanks for your earlier comment about the diary. I'm glad you like it. To answer your question; in theory it is shared with the adjacent flat (there are two flats on the roof area, above a shop). In practice, the other occupant doesn't bother much with the space and I (currently) have pretty much carte blanche . I'm limited on the amount of plantpots etc I can have due to weight loading restrictions. But there IS a 'back yard/car-park' area downstairs that I can overflow into.

You kept that one quiet Roofy:- 'But there IS a 'back yard/car-park' area downstairs that I can overflow into.' World domination awaits!

It`s actually, "Cabinet Office BoardRoom A". Nooo.. not really daitheplant. We just told that to the Welsh so that they wouldn't be able to find it ! Daitheplant: I just don't understand it, Llewlyn; we've looked for Boardroom A everywhere . It's not even on the floorplan. Llewlyn: Perhaps we're in the wrong building Dai ? Daitheplant: Well, we've tried Whitehall, Parliament, No. 10, The Cabinet War rooms, the Arsenal, the Tower... NONE of them have a "Boardroom A"... I mean.... where else COULD it possibly BE ? Llewlyn: I don't know Dai' ... but.. it IS a 'secret' location, so... where do the British store all of their secrets ? Daitheplant: You DON'T mean... they've put it with all of their OTHER state secrets... in..... Together: The KREMLIN ?

That sounds like an ideal arrangement RG - I couldn't be botherered with the my side your side rammies which do occur! In the car park overflow is there space for veg and flowers - aren't you worried they will disappear - I watched a prog where pots etc were just lifted out of people's garden - one was on a main st in full view of everyone! :-0
