Thank you dianthus hopefully they will settle and grow nice strong roots. I still cringe when I prick them out.

Thank you dianthus hopefully they will settle and grow nice strong roots. I still cringe when I prick them out. I know, but the way to look at it is that you are going to give your babies the equivalent of follow-on milk, as they now need to have some nutrients in the compost, to become strong and sturdy. Thus you are rescuing them.

That looks REALLY organised Moonlight . Well done ! I have a secret ! I opened a BOX this weekend. It contained potatoes. I planted them in my BIGEST and DEEPEST trough. They came with a little purple stick.... and a piece of purple tinsel. (photograph to follow). Well I remember purple tinsel but not any potatoes.

The best pricker outers have been Tel 's Wyn's Favourite, neat little root bundle.

Tel 's green fingers will be with us, for some time, I think. He was very helpful with his gardening knowledge.

I think I've been missing something here Moonlight. You prick the seedlings out by pulling them by the leaf ? I've always used a small plastic teaspoon to "dig" them out. Am I doing this wrong ?

As far as I know as long as you don't touch the stem it's all good roofgardener

Actually if I need to 'dig' it out, I use a couple of cocktail sticks. Always makes me laugh when people think that I know what I am doing.

I was humming and haring about whether or not to prick out some more or have an early night tonight. Early night won.

I had work the last couple of days but received a message from my Dad via my Mum, telling me that I ought put my seedlings out for some sun. The thing is, they can't go in the greenhouse over night, so everything that I have done has been here. In the house. I left the seedlings on my laptop table and others on a tray sitting on top of the settee. Not that I am showing off my seedlings but well I wanted them noticed. Came home and found the seedlings in exactly the same position. So my Mum and Dad must have been squashed up on one settee with the seedlings lounging around on the other. How funny. Well they are out catching some rays. I intend to shade them a lot more when it gets hotter. Todays brood are sitting in the porch, not exposed to the elements, shaded but with plenty of sunlight. Hope Dad isn't still worrying.
