Thanks Moonlight, cross with myself this morning though, in my greenhouse excitement I took a tray of 24 beautifully healthy pepper plants out of warm house and put them in gh - completely forgetting the fact they are warm climate plants, needless to say 3 days later Che has rushed in after checking gh following storm Katie and we have had to bring the sad wilted grey seedlings back in- gutted is understatement

I had my Dahlia's and Canna's upstairs as I don't have a greenhouse - today I thought I'd put them in new soil to start them into growth, but, to my disappointment I've lost all my Honka Dahlias except Honka orange and a few others - I didn't want to overwater but I ended up doing the opposite by not watering enough - I lost all but one of my Canna's too!

I'm surprised you've lost them due to no water. I didn't water any of mine as they were stored in newspaper and I have shoots already they have been potted up 2-5 days

Should be fine then, remove from pots repot give a little warm and water (no waternear crown) and they should be good to go. Why were you thinking you had lost them? Is it just that they are taking a while? If so there are ways to kick start them

This has been the first season overwintering dahlias ( without my late parents to advise) and I am fairly happy with the tubers so far. Although very slow to start throwing cuttings compared to those with heat we do have lift off. Today I decided to check the tubers that haven't started to shoot to see if they had any thin white roots in their pots and yes they did. All barr 3 had definate growth and in total this winter I have only lost 2 tubers. The 3 with no growth I have repotted and put into a warmer part of the greenhouse. The 2 lost were due to rotting - Hapet Ideal and Annika. Rotting is Something I'm still getting to grips with in a greenhouse full of plants on shelves not designed for the job - water too little they're too dry, too much water and squelch... We have been trying cuttings again this year with mixed results. I will post again if any actually strike roots. Although I am concerned we are behind others... All in all Che and I are at a fairly happy stage in our 2nd independent season We would like to thank every friendly gardener for supporting us in our journey so far Particularly Raymond ian and Tel (r.i.p), the men we call our Oracle's. Your kindness and generosity means so much - thank you
