Decided to try out an ikea grow light thingy for my seedlings... it definitely seems to have perked up the acer that I thought was doomed and the whitebeam that have survived the cat attacks seem to be liking it too. In this pic there are also some avocados (no idea if they will survive), the peach tree, some juniper and new rowan seedlings at the back.

Ziggy just wants to sit under the growlight to grow up big & strong! I grew an avocado plant from a stone years ago ziggy, it made quite nice houseplant but I don't think it would ever have got big enough to fruit, maybe in a big heated greenhouse one might.

He doesn't need much help to grow! Lol. He's only 9 months old and he's massive. I hope.the avocado survives but like you I don't think I will ever get fruit SueA. It will be fun to see though.

I hope all these wee seedlings grow up nice and strong. I have a lot more seeds in the fridge now too so I will have to wait and see what else turns up.

all the Avocado stones I threw in the compost rooted and threw up shoots, so they must be really hardy, I ended up throwing about 10 out

To be honest daisy I can't remember which method worked for me, I tried the 'suspending a stone over a glass of water' method with the stone just touching the water & also just pushing the stone part way into a pot of compost one. I found a photo & it was 11 years ago, here it is growing on the kitchen windowsill at our old house.

No daisy as far as I remember I just used the avocado, saved the stone washed it, let it dry & then grew it, the plant got quite tall in the end & as I didn't have a greenhouse at all there or anywhere warm to keep it I think I eventually just composted it!
