ps: I must admit I much prefer seeing exhibits "with foliage"..... xx

Thank you. Yes I agree re foliage Lou78W looks better, will change to all that way i think regardless. The president of the society is 80+ and che 9 so they loved the group photo of the generations together. We have cut some super blooms today for the house and neighbours - pity we didn't have a show these are top notch.

What a lovely day today at the High Wycombe dahlia society show. My first time there and was made to feel really welcomed. A big thank you to Mike Chatterton, John Bloxham, Andrew Barrow and every one of you dahlia nuts for making me feel so welcomed at your show. Although the numbers were down, the standard was high, with some top showmen. They even want me to go back after nicking the top prize, and another pot!!! My first championship win in a society show really rounded off a perfect day, that even the traffic on the M25 couldn't tarnish. One more show tomorrow and then the National on Tuesday
I think the Valentine on the left decided it was getting near bed time. Glad it waited until the judges had done their bit

Went to Wisley today. Disappointed with the standard this year. Many spaces on the show benches. Number of exhibits less than usual.

What a great day at the National yesterday. Considering the weather we've had this year, particularly in the days in the run up to the show, the standard was high, although as Diggie says, there were some spaces on the benches. I had originally entered 13 classes, but only managed to stage 6. Lost a lot of blooms to damping off with the early morning mists. Was lovely to meet Cat and Che, a real pleasure to see the Little Champ staging he's winning vase of poms, if only I still had his energy . I bet he was buzzing all day Cat!!
I managed 5 cards for my 6 entries, a 1st, a 2nd, and 3 3rds, so happy with my efforts. Was 4th in the Intermediate Championship, from 10 entries, with an old boy from this forum, Raymond, taking the trophy home. Well done Raymond a nice set of vases mate.
My First for 3 giants. Bryn Terfel
Raymond's winning exhibit for the Intermediate Championship
My entry for the same championship, a bit jangled around after judging

johndoe yes it was a great day, and fab to meet you in person. Che was very tired but enjoyed every minute. The experience was amazing. Like yourself we entered more than we staged due to the weather but we were happy we managed to bring something. Che got 2 x first, 1 x third and I even got a cheeky 3rd First Weston Pirate Third Hillcrest Candy Third Kiwi Gloria First Moor Place - going to practise staging those!!! haha

Lou mentioned on Wednesday that Raymond had not been on for ages. Davidv was showing at the show where I was last Saturday. I had noticed that he was no longer on the list of members of this forum and I asked him about it. He said that he had taken himself off because he said that nobody seemed to want to talk to him. He also said that other dahlia men , including Raymond , had come off and gone on facebook instead.
