Thanks for updating us Derek. I know that there is quite an active group on Facebook and the NDS have a flourishing forum so its no surprise to me that we have lost popularity. I don't show now so don't have much to contribute, apart from encouraging those who put up their pics and successes on here. This group lost its "oomph" a bit when Tel passed away, then Janey. Its a shame (:

You're right there, Lou, losing Tel and Moonlight so close together was just devastating, and then the arrival of the Facebook page really took the wind out of the forums sails. I still like posting on here, especially now it's much easier to post pictures. Derek, I don't know who wasn't talking to David, but I always answered any question or comments he posted. It's a shame he no longer comes on as the number of people who do is getting smaller by the month.
Still, I'll keep posting my boring pics and comments

Had a great day at the Stevenage Allotment Society show today, 3 1st, 6 2nd, and a 3rd, plus best exhibit in the Dahlia classes, and best exhibit in show . Kevin Moores won the 3 vase championship, well done mate. So after winning the High Wycombe dahlia society championship last week, 8 1st at the Knebworth show, a 1st at the National on Tuesday, and now today, makes all those very early mornings and late evenings worthwhile. I hope everybody showing this weekend has as much luck as I've had.....

johndoe awesome results my friend, well done We have finished showing for the year. We had originally thought that we would do another 2 this weekend but after wisley and the weather so poor we decided to finish on the high of good results and not worry about trying for blooms in the rain. Che and I have really enjoyed our run this year and I dont want to loose the passion he has gained from his amazing experiences. We are both enjoying looking at everyone's posts of their ongoing shows johndoe derekbrooks and agree that posting pictures on here is much better - shame it wasn't available sooner. Having just been made a village shows press secretary I think that it's that fact that Facebook reaches such a large audience that has made it appealing but I am happy to post here as long as it is running, if it wasnt for Tel telling me on facebook to join this page I wouldnt have 'met' you all and made the journey with Che that we have been able to enjoy for the last 3 years

Hi everyone . I dont get the time to come on here often . I need to sort out a new way uploading pictures to here . I have had alot of ups and downs this season. Not the time needed as well due to work issues and health . In the end though i am over the moon with my results Kent on the 3rd 7 firsts 4 of them trophy classes 3 seconds 1 third National at wisley Won the internediates. Still in shock. I did not have any nice mediums as all damped off so had to use young hillcrest candy and sheval megan . The megan ok. The star was hillcrest jersie scoring 23 points . Highest scoring vase in class . It pulled me through just . Was nominated for a higher award . Got another first in two vases exhibitors choice with cherwell goldcrest and kilmorie the kilmorie nominated for a higher award. 2nd in the six distinct cultivar small or min cactus or semi cactus . 3rd two vases of five sml dec and sml cactus or semi cactus. My small semi cactus and cactus have been super for me this year . Shame the rest not ! Hahaha johndoe Cat great to see you at wisley and well done for all the great blooms you exhibited and for the rest of the season. Started my plans for next year now . Good to see you back Raymond and congratulations on your success at the National . I'm only a beginner and this forum has been a great source of info and its great to have experienced growers like yourself to ask for advice.
I found uploading photos improved greatly recently. Looking forward to seeing your pics.

Today I have had a reply from Raymond.I sent him a message last week telling him that I had shown Trouper Dan and won a prize with it because he sent me the plants. He also sent me some "Garden Friends". I showed a vase of that yesterday and got a third and I have just told him that.

Hi Raymond,
I don't think you need a photo hosting site anymore to post photos. When you click the reply button the next page has an add image to post in the top right hand corner you click on it and then just select photos from your computer/tablet.
Hope that helps.
johnjess
ps Congratulations on the driving!!

Raymond mentioned Hillcrest Jersie not being grown by many growers down South, are there many dahlias that have a North or South preference?

Well done Raymond, that'll make it a lot easier for you getting your blooms to the shows. Wouldn't like to take a driving test nowadays, too many idiots on the road. It was a lot easier back in 1977 .
It think that's a great decision to concentrate on your semi-cactus and cactus, you had some good blooms last year, and your Jersie's were very good.
