johndoe that looks like a great heater can you share a few details for me please? Hi Cat, it's a Bio-green phoenix heater, 2.8 kilo-watt. It's very economical and perfect for my 12 x 8 greenhouse. It has 3 heat settings, plus it can also blow just cold air. Link below will give you more details. And be prepared, it doesn't come cheap .

So I finally got round to trimming the tubers, it was a much more time consuming job than I anticipated!! The tubers are now in trays in compost with the crowns above but tubers all covered. They are going to have to stay in the garage until propagating time as I don't have room in the house for them so I have put some fleece over them to help keep the cold off. Was this the right thing to do or could they sweat under the fleece and then possibly rot?
I now can see the beauty of pot tubers as some of the tubers I lifted were huge Hillcrest Candy in particular! I'm not sure how I'm going to get the ones I want cuttings from into my small heated propagator to start them off!

Hi Johnjess Space is a problem I have, which is the reason I grow pot tubers. I leave the pots in the ground until as late as possible usually until December. When the pots are lifted I leave the tubers in the pots until I need to use them. I find this method much easier as I can set up the tubers as and when I need them.

A quick pot tuber question before we lose the 2017 season thread!! Roughly how many cuttings would you expect from a pot tuber? And do you start them off at the same time as a field tuber or earlier/later? Thanks .

Hi johnjess, from my experience, and I am not an expert, the amount of cuttings one would get varies from variety to variety. In the past I have purchased pot tubers from commercial growers and they have not given a single cutting. I now grow all my own pot tubers and I find they are more productive. I start my tubers as one would with field tubers. However some varieties are late starters, so it pays to keep a diary of how they perform. Hope this helps.

Thanks diggie, I'll maybe hold off on my order for Halls of Heddon until I see how my tubers are performing then. I only have one pot tuber ( Polventon Kristobel) which I bought from a seller on eBay and its my first experience of using pot tubers so not too sure what to expect. You mentioned growing your own pot tubers. Are they a straight forward thing to grow? Is there a specific pot size or can you use whatever you have?

Hi johnjess, Grow your cuttings in the normal way. Place them in a 3 inch pot and grow them on. Do not stop the plant but will need support. Place the pot up to the rim in ground. Once the plant has flowered and you have identified it is the correct variety do not allow the plant to flower again. I feed and water mine some growers do not. I then leave them in the ground for as long as possible.
Regards, Diggie.

Great diggie, thanks. I may have a go this year as propagating space is tight so pot tubers may be the better option for me.
Cheers
