When I went to feed the fish this morning I saw this LARGE frog at the wall of the pond. one of the largest I have seen here. Anyway I thought they would all be hibernating at this time of year. If it is still there tomorrow I will try to relocate it to the wildlife pond as it can't be too easy getting out of where it is as there is an overhang all round the pond plus mesh covers.

Update. Today saw frog again with another one attached to it in flagrant delicto'? they are in the wrong pond for any spawn to survive so will have to keep a lookout and transfer to wildlife pond if I am in time.

Ditto grindle took a walk down to the wildlife pond this morning and there is loads of spawn there, some of it above the water level too.

I just hope this cold spell won't be too much trouble, last year I had very few tadpoles after the freeze

Your frogs were well ahead of ours, spotted the first frogspawn today, it's actually the first we've had in the pond since we moved here. We had spawn in the pond at the other house a couple of times but the blackbirds/cats always used to manage eat it before/after it got as far as full sized frogs! This is quite a big ball with some sticking up out of the water so I hope it doesn't get too cold but it seems to go down quite a way so some should survive. Here's the 'tip of the iceberg' :-

after the initial 'goings on' they seemed to disappear with the colder weather, now it's due to warm up again, I'm expecting to see activity

Three of the baby frogs were in & around the pond yesterday, not sure how many have survived but there seem to be a few of various sizes ( only between about one & two inch long) around in the borders.

Thrilled to see a frog in a little wildlife pond I created in the spring.

Stood by our pond the other evening and there was a frog croaking. Thought they only did that in the mating season. Cat was fascinated and spent ages looking for it.

Again when I went down to feed the fish saw FOUR frogs, well two pairs if you know what I mean Why do they decide to have an orgy in the fish pond when there is a perfectly good 'wildlife' pond further down the garden?

'Relocated' one of them to the other pond. The rest were keeping out of site. This shows the amount of fish where the frogs were so any spawn would have no chance.
