Well, I'm going to have to think of a new name, aren't I ? I'm not a roofgardener any more. Or at least, I no longer garden on the roof. However, I think being a Roofgardener is a state of attitude, rather than a state of altitude. So, here is the new 2019 blog. The polytunnel is almost in an operational state, having spent the last 5 weeks as a storage overflow for books, clothes, and all manner of bits and bobs. They've mostly all been evicted now, and replace with garden-related stuff. There's still a BIT of tweaking to be done, and I've also made an Exciting New Purchase for the polytunnel. Photographs to be posted this weekend, hopefully

I hadn't thought about that roofgardener you 'imposter'! It will be a whole new adventure for you gardening at ground level - & a whole new set of pests to contend with!

The New Polytunnel
Well, it's actually the same old polytunnel, transplanted from the Roofgarden into my new ... umm... ground-garden ?
| Well, this was my Exciting New Purchase for January. It is a shelving unit. . It's quite sturdy, and the shelves are suprisingly deep. The mesh lifts out of each shelf, meaning I can get extra height for tall plants like tomatoes and Laylandii
As ever, all of the pictures are on RoofNet, so you can click for a bigger picture
Over winter, I can store all my empty plantplots and clutter in this. Of course.. that would look unsightly. So I can just........
| .... zip the cover down Hey presto... instant tidyness.
| This is the view of the shelves from the front door of the polytunnel.
| Everything is neat and tidy. A place for everything, and........
| ... everything all over the place. Oh dear.... some more work yet to do, methinks.
I hope to post some more photographs over the weekend of the 26th/27th Jan.

I like those little white baskets hanging from the 'roof' crosspieces Roofy, is that something you came up with yourself or are they sold specifically for use in a polytunnel?

I think I got them from Wilko's or something ? They are designed to hang under kitchen shelves etc to provide an 'extra' shelf.

So, anyway, there I was on Sunday, just after 13:00. I was JUST about to go out to the Polytunnel, do a little light potting, and then take more photographs like I promised I would do a few posts ago. Suddenly, this voice burst out... "I AM THE LORD THY GOD, AND I DEMAND A SACRIFICE OF A GLASS OF WINE". 'Blimey' I thought, 'I'd better do what he says', so I had a glass of wine. JUST as I was finishing, and getting ready to go out to the polytunnel, the voice boomed out again. "I AM THE LORD THY GOD, AND I DEMAND ANOTHER GLASS OF WINE". 'Well' I thought, 'I'd better have another one then.' And this went on. Each time I'd just finished a glass, and was about to grab my camera and go out to the Polytunnel, the voice boomed out again. I had to open a second bottle, in the end. Finally, the voice went away, so I tried to get my camera and go out to the Polytunnel. Strangely, however, my legs where no longer functioning. So I went to bed instead !

I'll try and take photographs of the shelves this weekend, ladybird, and illustrate how they where SUPPOSED to be used. The polytunnel is 3m (about 10') long, and 2m (about 6') wide

The Polytunnel
Well, I seem to recall that at least ONE of my seed packets said to sow in February, so I need to dig it out. The polytunnel is pretty much ready now
| All of these pictures are on RoofNet, so you can click to see a larger version
Well, the workbenches are pretty much sorted out.....
| I still need to sort out the shelving. I think a LOT of the gravel trays and seed pots might be for the bin. I seem to have far more than I can reasonably use ?
| The shelving unit is VERY handy for my little library. Unlike the main polytunnel, it doesn't suffer from condensation, so anything inside it will stay dry. (unless I deliberately water it, which I wouldn't normally do with my books).
| Some daffodils that I'm going to transplant into troughs....
| These are refugees from the roofgarden......
| There's my Thyme, and the Cinerrera.
| And some young Honesty plants. Not sure what I'm going to do with these... I may actually plant them into the garden itself, rather than keeping them in plantpots.
| .. and I THINK that these are foxgloves ?
| I got some Cycloman and Primroses from the local garden center (more on THAT later) to decorate my path. [td][td]
| EGADS.... me ponds frozen over |
Well, that's all for today. Tomorrow I'll be uploading some pictures of the hanging shelves for SueA's benefit.
