Thank You Roofy I`ve always enjoyed a bit of garden DIY, I made the Greenhouse tables, Geoff Hamilton compost bins, and rough seating and I was always futtering with my old greenhouse I can't leave anything alone I thought about what I didn't like about the old rotten beds, too low, not enough space to kneel between beds, plastic cover flying off ect . I have been looking at other peoples raised beds and covers for several years for inspiration and thought now is the time to do it . I think my cover idea is original though ( maybe I should patent it ) Still got a few problems such as the end hoops moving inward and still trying to figure how to lift the sides easily but I can fold the end back quite a bit and he cover stays secure. I have a load of wood on the front drive way and a few more ideas . Bed 2 cover made and have it filled with beans onions and a lot Coix lacryma-jobi . There is just the small bed to think about now it has load of straw berries which I intend to move into pots.

I made another raised bed along the back fence.I originally had a fence edging along the length of it but The soil here is rock hard and full of roots from that bay tree ( I`ll have to dig it up and grow one in a pot) and also roots from a poor specimen of camelia ( which is no more as I chopped it to bits today ) This spot is sunny all day but I`m not sure yet what to grow here yet and I need to reinforce it.

That's a good idea ladybird instead of struggling with poor soil.

Blimey.. there's no stopping her. Do you fancy working in MY garden, ladybird ? So far it has been all easy stuff to do Roofy, all you need is wood and screws. I still have plenty of wood and a few more ideas..........

This gives me inspiration. However, your description. Of easy is different to mine. well Cherry I think I took a few easy short cuts and I`m now wondering if I should take suea`s advise and reinforce the corners of those beds as when eventually filled with soil there are only a few screws holding them together . That would mean moving 16 black corner pieces . I`ll have to re think the long narrow raised bed along the back as the wood is thin and will bulge when filled with soil. All suggestions welcome . Also I have a hankering to paint the rims of the beds black as Roofy suggested . I think I may still have a tin some where of tudor black fence paint mixed with green. ( I was trying to get a dark green colour but it stayed black )

You could knock a few posts in along the inside long thin edges & screw the planks to them to reinforce the bed a bit ladybird & if you don't want to take out all your corner tubing on your other beds you could screw a couple of right angle brackets to the outside of each corner maybe?

Thanks Sue never thought of putting posts in a different place other than the corners . that would definitely work and really good for the long bed as well with the thin fencing board. I have plenty of wood for the job as well.
