Thanks balc2, Eli & grindle. This year seems a bit odd in that some early flowers went over very quickly & some have been late coming out, I always try to plant bulbs to give a succession of flowers through spring though. It sounds as though you pack a lot of colour onto your balcony balc2, I bet it looks lovely again when your summer flowers get going.

More flowers appearing now, a peony in the front garden is flowering for the first time in ages, it had been overshadowed by other plants which I've cut back this winter so it's getting more light, can't remember the variety though & I scrambled around underneath it to find the label but the name had worn off! Another peony - tree peony Serviceberry tree Crab apple blossom Erythronium More Lilliput tulips Magnolia in a pot flowering for the first time Purple tulips in pot Pear & apple trees & pots between the shed & greenhouse, needs a bit of tidying & new bit of fence needs painting

Thanks balc2 , Eli & grindle . This year seems a bit odd in that some early flowers went over very quickly & some have been late coming out, I always try to plant bulbs to give a succession of flowers through spring though. It sounds as though you pack a lot of colour onto your balcony balc2 , I bet it looks lovely again when your summer flowers get going. Like you, @sue, I try to get a succession of plants that flower after one another. That's why I have the pots & troughs underplanted with bulbs for the early spring flowers & Pansies or Violas for a little winter colour but mainly because they flower in the gap between the spring bulbs coming to an end & the summer flowering plants can be put out safely.
I do try to get as much summer colour on the balcony as I can. I have hanging baskets, troughs & lots of pots of all sizes vying for a glimpse of the sun! I also have strings attached to the top of the railings that reach up to the roof of the balcony up which I grow mostly, Morning Glories! Some years there have been Sweetpeas, others Nasturtiums. One year I even grew a few runner beans! (Though neither my wife or I like them the flowers are spectacular even though we don't eat the resulting seedpods!I deadheaded most of them!)

That does look spectacular balc2 ! Good idea to put the strings up for your climbers as well, bet you can't see out of the window there in summer!
