I haven't taken any photos of the Pansies, Cyclamen & a Geranium flowering on the balcony so far this year! But I can show you a pot of Hyacinths my daughter & son-in-law bought me for Christmas:

lesley, January can be a bit of a bleak month which is the reason I try to grow some Pansies or Violas on the balcony during the winter months. It can be rather depressing just seeing empty pots - even if they do have spring flowering bulbs in them!

Yesterday evening I discovered that my Clivias now have flowerbuds on them! I'm happy about that because they haven't flowered for a couple of years & when they did the flowers were way down low in amongst the leaves & hardly out of the bulbs! I found out last year that I should give them the same treatment I give my Amaryllis bulbs, i.e., Let them go dormant from late autumn & let them get some cold, not freezing though! It seems to have worked because since repotting them only a couple of weeks ago & putting them in the kitchen again they now have buds! So now I know for the future how to get them to flower every year! The last two years they only made leaves & It seems they can go on like this for years without flowering if they don't get a 3 month dormant period with cold!

Two Hyacinths planted at the same time and on the same windowsill but one is much more advanced than the other ...

They look really good, Eli! I think the wild ancestors of our modern Hyacinths were blue, rather like Bluebells or Scillas. Perhaps that might account for them flowering sooner than the different colours we now have. (?)
