I picked the half a dozen Gardeners Delight toms that were ripe from the self-sown plant yesterday. There are 5 or 6 trusses still to ripen on this plant.
I watered the 3 growbags with tomato fertilizer. All the plants are growing very well and, except for 2,are all as tall or taller than me! The 2 that are smaller are the 1 with the lighter foliage, reaches nearly up to my shoulders, & the cutting that's only a few inches tall 😕

One of the 'Gardeners Delight' plants has deformed/distorted foliage but I'm unsure whether it's from growing conditions, (it's in the shadiest corner of the balcony), or if it might be a virus. I did a search online earlier but couldn't get any conclusive information. I'm adding it to this post to see if anybody might know what's wrong with it.

I ate some of the 'Gardeners Delight' tomatoes that were ripe on a plant that I sowed, not the self-sown one. They were more or less like the ones I used to grow as far as I can remember.
Some say this variety has lost a lot of its original flavour but that didn't seem so to me.
In a couple of days I will have fruit ripe enough to eat on the self-sown plant & on another of the ones I sowed. Then I will be able to compare the flavour. The self-sown plant's fruit seemed to me to be a little sweeter than I remembered it from some years ago.
I'll post what I think they tasted like in a few days.

I pinched the tops out of the highest plants at the start of the month. I have quite a few toms now - they are not visible in this photo, unless you blow it up real big! I've been removing some of the leaves as well. Perhaps some of the trusses might be more visible if I took another photo, tomorrow?

Eli, yes, there are lots of tomatoes to come yet but I have had only a few so far. The season started of bad with the cold spring but picked up a little during the heatwave in June. Then the cold wet July put them behind again. August wasn't too bad & they kept growing fairly well. The September heatwave helped the fruit grow in size, though being Gardeners Delight they will never get big. Still I'm getting ripe tomatoes every day now.

My toms hardly make it to the kitchen let alone get converted into soup!

For some reason [laziness I guess] I didn't stop my toms and they are continuing to flower and set fruit. I will be taking a good 2 dozen plum and salad toms to my daughter on Saturday. She loves making ragu so she will have plenty for the freezer.

I stopped the majority of my plants a few weeks ago but they continue to make flowers & fruit! As we're heading into October in a few days time I don't expect them to grow, though I will continue to water them until its very obvious they are not going to get any bigger, less still, ripen! I shall have to pick the green ones as they reach picking size & hope that will cause the smaller toms to get big enough to pick before cold weather shuts them down for this year. As they are 'Gardeners Delight' they won't get big anyway!

I have been looking ba little closer at the tomatoes on the balcony, especially the self-sown one. Now I don't think it is 'Gardeners Delight' but some other variety of cherry tomato. I say that because some of the higher trusses are now longer than the other plants that I know are 'Gardeners Delight'. I've taken some photos but I haven't moved them to the computer yet. Tomorrow I won't be able to do it either so it will have to wait till Wednesday.
I noticed today there are now a lot of ripe toms on the plants that I will need to pick so as to give the green ones a chance to ripen.
